The new fan favorite and basketball prodigy Victor Wembenyama has been living up to the hype and performing extraordinarily well so far in the season games. The 7’4″ potential Rookie of the Year has already garnered a huge fan following thanks to his skills, talent, build, and the oozing potential that he brings to the court, dominating on both sides of the court.

Fans are banking on the hope that the Frenchman will not meet with some career-ending injuries, because if everything goes well, he just might be the next legend in the making. Amidst these expectations and pressure, ESPN’s Skip Bayless comes out with disappointed remarks against Wemby about his Spurs game against the New York Knicks last night.

The Knicks took down the Spurs with a huge margin of 126-105 win. This was Wemby’s debut game at the iconic Madison Square Garden, and Skip Bayless is anything but impressed.?”I will not let this go because it was worse than ever last night”.?Skip knows that Wemby is tall, and that makes it hard for opponents to get around him, even more so when he is driving in; there is just no way to stop him even if they are physical with him.

However, according to him, Wemby did not use this to his advantage last night. He says, “It’s hard to get physical with somebody when they’re loitering out there in the three-point line, cos that’s all he did the whole night.” Skip is disappointed that Wemby drifted out and wasted too much time around the 3-point line, and he did not make his opponents work.

The math isn’t ‘mathing’ with Wemby’s 3-point attempts

Skip pulls out the stats to make his point; he has noticed that Wembanyama has fallen in love with the 3-point shots, “but he is now fallen to 29.3% from 3 while taking the most 3’s of any San Antonio Spur, that is wrong, wrong, wrong. At 7’4″, you lead the team in 3-point attempts with 41 through 8 games, and you’re shooting 29.3%?” For Skip, that math doesn’t work, because that means too many empty possessions.

Moreover, Wemby is the top 3 blocker in the NBA, but last night he managed only 1, and this has got Skip worrying about what approach he is taking because he underperformed on the defensive side too. The only comfort for Skip from Wemby was that he made all six of his free throws.
