At the age when many athletes start to regress, LeBron James‘ career trajectory is only moving upwards. Defying Father Time, he is still one of the best scorers in the league. Only a few people in the NBA have been able to create a legacy like LeBron’s.

However, when you are this successful, it is natural that people will point fingers trying to discredit it. Veteran analyst Skip Bayless, notorious for being a LeBron “hater,” is unyielding when the NBA Legend’s ten-year-old investigation comes to light.

LeBron James’ decade-old probe comes to light

LeBron James’ name appeared in a DEA PED investigation because of his association with his business manager Ernest Mims and trainer David Alexander.

While the report clearly mentioned that there was no indication that LeBron James was involved, his name came up in the investigation because of his relationship with Mims and Alexander. Allegedly, Ernest Mims and David Alexander were involved in direct dealings with ‘mastermind’ Carlos Acevedo.

To reiterate, neither of the documents accuse James of using performance-enhancing drugs or steroids. His name was only brought into investigation because of his close connection with the suspects. However, both suspects have been cleared of supplying any PEDs to the athletes.

Skip Bayless strikes again

While discussing the investigation on Undisputed, Skip Bayless emphasized that the DEA found no connection between James and Biogenesis. “It is a bad look for LeBron (James),” said Skip. It was found out that Mims bought the drugs for personal use. However, Skip had some reservations as to why he would not just do it the right way.

Skip remarked, “Randy Mims is a cornerstone of that group. He is the right-hand man to LeBron James. Randy Mims obviously is well taken care of by LeBron, so he’s got some money, I assume. So why would he have to resort to going to a questionable source that eventually would be linked to biogenesis to get testosterone? In Miami, there are wellness centers like on every other corner.” 

While Skip highlighted that he had never heard a rumor about the Lakers star being involved in any drug-related activity, he was still suspicious. He said, “I’ve covered so much scandal with PEDs through baseball and football that I sat back and thought well does LeBron look the part? Well, sure he does. He got a great physique and his durability has been all time all time. And so you do connect the dots at that point and say was it possible he resorted to? It’s possible.”

Alexander had trained both James and his wife Savannah, and therefore, it was natural to look into them as a part of the investigation. However, neither of them was guilty of taking any supplements. They were simply dragged into the middle of this because of their association. The reports stated that James did not even know that he or his wife were being investigated until last November. Although James has not been implicated in any allegations involving the use of performance-enhancing substances, this kind of distraction is the last thing he needs as he prepares himself for his 21st NBA season.
