Patrick Beverley thinks Israel is in Europe—Is this the funniest NBA blunder yet?

Throwing a basketball at a spectator is the last thing people will remember about Patrick Beverley‘s NBA career. Another classic Patrick Beverley moment came after he refused to give an interview to a reporter because she did not subscribe to his podcast. We’ll let you choose his best moment because Pat Bev is off to “Europe”.

Patrick Beverley hit free agency after his contract with the Bucks expired in the summer. After 11 years in the league and no offers on the plate, Beverly decided to head for new pastures. Bev was looking for a contract with a higher figure than the $3.1 million in a veteran minimum contract. Finding no suitors means fans have seen the last of Pat Bev on the NBA court for the foreseeable future as he is moving to Israel.

Pat Bev announced the move via his official podcast account and wrote, BREAKING: @patbev21 is headed to Europe. They gave me everything I asked for… I couldn’t refuse.'” His destination will be Hapoel Tel Aviv BC, but a fan pointed out that Israel is not in Europe. “Israel is not in Europe, Pat,” a fan hilariously wrote on the thread. Israel is geographically a part of Asia, more specifically in the Middle East.

“Since when is Israel in Europe?” A second X user added. This time, the fan also highlighted the mistake made by Beverley. Although Israel is a beneficiary of ENP, European Neighbourhood Policy and is an associate state of the European Union. So we just might let the guard off the hook for his honest mistake.

A third user went a step further and denounced Israel’s right to be called a country. The person in question wrote, “Ain’t a country to begin with.” This comment might stem from the current political unrest in the Gaza Strip, so we’ll leave it up to readers’ discretion.

Another commenter uploaded an image that shows Israel is in Asia. But the fact Tel Aviv plays in the Euro League can be a big factor in Beverley’s announcement. Beverley has previous experience playing in the European basketball scene with Dnipro in Ukraine, Olympiakos in Greece and Spartak St. Petersburg in Russia.

“But did they subscribe to his podcast?” A fan hilariously pointed out. This was a callback from his interaction with ESPN’s Malinda Adams after the Bucks’ playoff exit to the Pacers. Beverley forbade the reporter from asking him questions because she hadn’t subscribed to his pod. This, coupled with hitting a fan with a ball, led to a 4-game suspension without pay from the league and a rumor that he’s been banned from ESPN, which was later squashed.

Not that it will make now cause he’s already heading to “Europe”. The 36-year-old could become a valuable asset to the team and pay back a big chunk of his “historical” contract fee. If he stays out of trouble, we might see the best of Patrick Beverley.
