The Pelicans are struggling! They are sitting at the bottom of the West standings with only seven wins. But Zion Williamson’s return earlier this week has given them a major confidence boost. Yes, the high flyer had not suited up since November 6 due to a left hamstring strain but returned this Tuesday for the Wolves clash. Obviously, the Pels are being cautious about his health, which is why Zion missed the Blazers game the following night. And that begs the question: Will he play tonight against the Sixers?
Well, the answer is YES! That’s because Zion is not listed on the Pelicans’ injury report. Obviously, his suiting up would be a massive advantage for the team because he looked in top form on Tuesday as he finished with 22 points and six rebounds. He even threw down a nasty reverse windmill slam, proving that he is healthy and ready to go.
Amid the good news, there are also some bad ones. Well, Brandon Ingram will miss his fifteenth straight game. The reason? A left ankle sprain that has put him out since early December. Even Trey Murphy III will remain on the sidelines for the third consecutive time because of an ankle injury. And Herb Jones is out after suffering a shoulder injury during the Blazers encounter.

Even Dejounte Murray could be sitting out tonight. That’s because he is questionable with right elbow soreness. Surely, missing a game while he is already struggling to adjust to a new environment with the Pelicans is concerning. His scoring average has also dropped significantly from last year to 16.3 points. Moreover, the absence of multiple stars could cost the Pelicans tonight!
Pelicans and Sixers’ Depth Chart
With Williamson’s potential return, this is what the Pels’ depth chart looks like:
Position | Starters | 2nd | 3rd |
PG | Dejounte Murray (Q) | Jose Alvarado | Brandon Boston Jr. |
SG | CJ McCollum | Jordan Hawkins | Antonio Reeves |
SF | Jeremiah Robinson-Earl | Javonte Green | Jamal Cain |
PF | Zion Williamson | Karlo Matkovic | Trey Jemison III |
C | Yves Missi | Daniel Theis |
Well, he is likely to take back his spot in the starting lineup, especially with Herb out for the game. And Brandon Boston could see an increase in minutes off the bench. If Murray doesn’t suit up, Jose Alvarado could start in his place.
For the Sixers, this is what their depth chart looks like:

Positions | Starters | 2nd | 3rd |
PG | Tyrese Maxey | Reggie Jackson | Jeff Dowtin Jr. |
SG | Paul George (P) | Eric Gordon | Lester Quinones |
SF | Kelly Oubre Jr. | Ricky Council IV
PF | Caleb Martin | Adem Bona
C | Guerschon Yabusele | Justin Edwards |
Unfortunately, they are even more injury-riddled than their opponents. Starting with Joel Embiid, he will miss his third consecutive game. The reason is a sprained left foot. Moreover, the Sixers have also lost star rookie Jared McCain for the entire season as he will now recover from his knee surgery.

Adding to the concerns, Andre Drummond, Kyle Lowry, and KJ Martin are also out. However, amid the multiple setbacks, Paul George could make his return as he is listed as probable. He missed the Wizards clash with left groin soreness and will likely be in the starting lineup tonight in place of Eric Gordon.
Sure enough, this is both teams’ first meeting this season. Last year, the Pels dominated the Sixers by winning both games in the season series. Who do you think will gain the upper hand tonight?
