With his first All-Star appearance in the bag, Victor Wembanyama is ready for the second half of the season. Now that their week-long break is over, the Spurs will return to action tonight. Their opponents? The Phoenix Suns. Sure enough, it is a crucial matchup as both teams aim to enter the playoff picture. But Wemby might be forced to watch the game from the sidelines as an unfortunate update emerges about his health.

As per the latest injury report, Wembanyama is doubtful about suiting up tonight. The reason? An illness. Well, this is an enormous blow because the young Center could miss out on the opportunity to play at the University of Texas’ Moody Center. The arena houses notable concerts, diploma ceremonies and, of course, basketball games. Notably, fans welcomed artists like Justin Bieber, Madonna, and Janet Jackson to name a few as it’s a special place.

And yes, the two upcoming Spurs games will not take place in their usual Frost Bank Center, moving to Austin instead. Of course, it’s part of the San Antonio franchise’s effort to grow its fanbase and expand their footprint in Austin.

The game’s goal is to attract corporate sponsors by hosting events there. Spurs’ senior VP Brandon James discussed it in a recent interview, “We’re in the fastest growing region in all of North America, and we realized we could have a stronger, more robust, more intentional presence in Austin. If we want to keep up with bigger market teams, we have to capitalize on things at our disposal.”

Sure enough, it’s going to be a special night as Kevin Durant returns to his alma mater for a once-in-a-year matchup. Unfortunately, Wemby might not be available to increase the star power. Moreover, it could hurt the Spurs as Victor is clearly their best player, averaging 24.3 points and nearly four blocks.

And his absence will leave a major void on both ends. So, fans hope Wemby’s status gets upgraded ahead of tip-off.

Victor Wembanyama would be seeking revenge after All-Star Weekend Embarrassment

While the All-Star break became fun and frolic for the fans, it wasn’t too kind to Wembanyama. Obviously, the weekend’s biggest controversy was Wemby and Chris Paul trying to hack Saturday night’s Skills challenge by bending the competition rules. They completed the task by getting the balls off the rack as quickly to secure the best time instead of attempting legitimate shots. It’s smart, but their move backfired as the officials axed the Spurs’ formidable duo from the event.

Moreover, Victor Wembanyama revealed it was his idea to use that strategy, as he said in an interview, “I don’t regret it. I think it was a good idea.” Adding to his misery, the French sensation suffered another setback the following night as his team lost the All-Star game to Shaq’s OGs.

Although he had a solid showing, scoring a combined 17 points in thirteen minutes across two games, the night ended, leaving a sour taste in his mouth because of the heartbreaking loss.

Surely, Wemby will use these setbacks and embarrassing instances as motivation for the remainder of the season. As of now, the Spurs are ranked 12th in the West and hoping to climb the standings. So hopefully, Victor will get his clearance to play to help his team achieve their goal.
