For several NBA players, their deep love for hooping did not allow them to cut ties with the sport even after retirement. Some found their way back, through an official role in a team, by becoming a coach or an analyst on television. Over the years, Ty Lue has grown in the NBA community. The LA Clippers‘ HC’s instructing style has been praised by both his players and rival teams!
In Jayson Tatum’s own words, “They’re super well-coached. T-Lue is one of the best coaches in this league, and obviously, he played, so he has a great feel for the game, what it’s like to be an NBA player. And he knows how to get guys to buy-in.”
Anyone who watches the NBA knows a lot about the head coach’s techniques and his bonds with players on the court. However, not much is known about Lue’s private life. In light of this, let us get to know more about the Clippers HC’s close ones.

Is Tyronn Lue married? A glance into the LA Clippers head coach’s life off the court
According to multiple reports, Tyronn (Ty) Lue has not gotten married yet. He is 47 years old. If he ever had relationships or is currently involved in one, the Clippers boss has publicly chosen to not speak about it at all… Well, if that is the case, then he is doing it really, really well! On top of that, Lue also reportedly does not have any children.
Ty was born on May 3, 1977, in Mexico, Missouri. According to a report by biographygist.com, the head coach is of mixed ethnicity, having descended from Afro-American and Mexican ancestors. His parents were Ron Lue and Kim Miller.
Kim raised the future NBA star all by herself, along with her other two children, Gregory Miller and Shakea LaToi Lue. Lue’s father was not part of his life, but his mum still wanted a positive male figure to be there. Therefore, she sent Ty to live with his uncle.

The early beginnings of Ty Lue’s basketball career happened after he completed his Freshman year of high school and left to live with his mother’s brother in Raytown, Kansas. In Raytown Senior High School, he played basketball under coach Scalon. After high school, Lue attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he played basketball and studied Sociology.

Lue played 99 games through 3 seasons with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He averaged 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. He led Nebraska in assists in all his college seasons. The stats he accumulated during his time at college allowed him to eventually be selected as the 23 pick in the 1998 NBA Draft! The rest, as they say, is history.
Is Ty Lue related to Jayson Tatum?
Family members being a part of the NBA at the same time isn’t anything uncommon.
Stephen Curry’s younger brother, Seth Curry, plays for the Charlotte Hornets. Seth also happens to be the son-in-law of Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers! Now, we even have the first father-son NBA duo playing together on the same team. Both LeBron James and Bronny James continue to leave an impression. Ty Lue’s siblings, though, are not anywhere close to the NBA. The coach is unmarried. Therefore, no one would really expect him to have any NBA connection. Surprisingly, however, he does.

Ty Lue just so happens to be the cousin of Justin Tatum, Jayson Tatum’s father!
The Boston Celtics champion knew his uncle from an early age. According to a report by CBS News, when Jayson was a kid, the Tatum family often made the 2-hour drive from St. Louis to Mexico, Missouri, to see Lue!
“Just seeing Little Jay when he was 6 or 7 years old and now to who he is today is crazy,” said Lue in a statement back then. “Seeing the player he’s become, we knew he was going to be good, but now he’s at a whole new level. Just seeing him coming to Mexico and just coming to my barbecues and all that stuff and now he’s an NBA player and playing at a high level, it’s just good to see.”

Now, even though they are now on rival teams, Lue continues supporting his cousin’s son. Justin even reportedly sent the coach a text after the Celtics made the Eastern Conference finals back in 2018. He hoped that he could connect with his cousin during the series.
Ty Lue may not have a wife or children. But whatever love he has to give, he pours it all out on the court with his team. Plus, it always helps to cope when a family connection is right there in the NBA with you!
