Does Curry's injury scare highlight the Warriors' over-reliance on him, or is it just fan paranoia?

The Warriors fans were left worried last Friday as Stephen Curry exited the game against the Kings with 4 minutes left in the second quarter. Curry jammed his right index finger in the first half of the game and did not return for action in the second half. When he was not seen on the bench for the rest of the game, fans were anxious about the extent of the injury and hoped it wasn’t too serious.

Fortunately, their worries were eased when reports confirmed that Curry had spent the second half working in the weight room. Upon hearing this, Warriors fans breathed a sigh of relief. Curry ended the night with 6 points, shooting 2-for-7 in 16 minutes of play. Despite his absence, the Warriors clinched a 109-106 win against the Kings. In the post-match interview, coach Steve Kerr addressed the situation, clearing the air regarding Curry’s injury scare.

Kerr told the reporters “Steph is Steph. I was assured at halftime that he was fine. X-rays were negative. Wasn’t anything too concerning. But you always get nervous when he gets hurt.” Kerr confirmed that Curry’s injury is nothing to be worried about.

Curry is currently on day-to-day monitoring and will be assessed. Coach Kerr also said, “He actually was going to play into the third quarter tonight for the first time, but when he jammed his finger, it made no sense.” Suggesting that Curry was going to get more game time but it was cut short as a precaution. The answer to Curry playing the next preseason game against the Pistons is most likely a Yes. The injury isn’t that concerning and the X-rays were also negative which indicates his availability for the matchup.

Golden State Warriors predicted line-up against Detroit Pistons

Coach Steve Kerr has already experimented with three different starting lineups in the first three games, and that number could increase to four if Stephen Curry doesn’t start against the Pistons. Following Curry’s recent injury scare, Kerr might take a cautious approach, but there’s still no definitive information on Curry’s availability. If Curry is cleared to play, he will likely start, but if not, Kerr may opt for a more youthful Warriors lineup. According to reports, the Warriors could rely on young players if Curry is ruled out. In such a case, Brandin Podziemski could be Curry’s backup. Rising talent like Moses Moody, who has impressed many during the preseason, is also expected to step into the starting role if needed.
