Ousmane Dieng’s basketball journey began at home. Growing up, he had his inspiration at home, as his father, Ababacar, was a hooper. He started his career in his youth days, with Villeneuve Basket Club and JSA Bordeaux, where he quickly showcased his talent. Well, do be surprised to know that he was just 16 years old, when his skills caught the attention of scouts, and he made the move to INSEP in Paris, one of the top basketball training institutes in France. No one would have guessed that he would end up playing in the under-18 team! And that too at the prestigious Next Generation Tournament. Well, for the next season, something big was waiting for him.

In the 2020–21 season, he took the next step in his career with Centre Fédéral, a club in France’s Nationale Masculine 1. His numbers were impressive: 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. These stats helped him develop his game and catch the eye of bigger leagues, including the NBA. His time in France showcased his versatility and proved that he was ready to play internationally.

In June 2021, what everyone thought happened. The hooper decided to head to New Zealand to play for the Breakers in the National Basketball League (NBL). There, he became the first European player to join the league’s Next Stars program. This program is designed to develop NBA prospects, and Dieng’s time with the Breakers helped sharpen his skills for the NBA. However, before joining there, he received offers from top college programs and the NBA G League Ignite, but his decision to play in the NBL came as a surprise. Well, his journey didn’t stop at the NBA. In April 2024, he achieved a significant milestone with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s G League affiliate.
