The New York Knicks are set to face off against the San Antonio Spurs within the next few hours. Under normal circumstances, the Knicks (44-28) wouldn’t have much to worry about since the Spurs currently hold a 17-56 record. However, with just a few more games remaining in the regular season, the team needs to put their best foot forward to ensure that they continue maintaining their position on the points chart and qualify for the playoffs. This would involve putting their best players in the main lineup. Fans have questioned whether Mitchell Robinson, who had recently returned to the court after a 50 games hiatus, will make himself available during the other games as well.

A few hours ago, ‘The Athletic’ reporter Fred Katz took to his official X account to highlight details from the recent Injury Report released by the Knicks. The update brought some good news for the fans, as it was stated that “Mitchell Robinson not on the injury report”. This means that the ankle injury that has plagued the player since December won’t be an issue for him for now. It would allow him to play against the Spurs and put up a stout defense against players like Victor Wembanyama.

While Robinson will be returning to the court, Knicks small forward OG Anunoby won’t be joining him. Despite having recently returned after a one-month break, the player has once again been placed in the “out” category of the report. Alec Burks, who has already missed 2 games in a row owing to his shoulder sprain, has been listed as questionable. Julius Randle, who has been dealing with a dislocated shoulder injury since late January, has also been listed as “out”.

From the San Antonio Spurs’ side, only Keldon Johnson appears on the Injury Report. After missing his team’s previous game against the Utah Jazz, the small forward’s availability, just like his status, is “questionable”.

How has Mitchell Robinson performed this season?

Mitchell Robinson has been a source of reliability for the Knicks ever since he was drafted to them back in 2018. The ankle injury sustained by him, however, forced him to miss out on almost four months’ worth of games this season. Before exiting, the player had managed to put up a commendable average of 10.3 rebounds, 6.2 points and 1.5 steals. While his points may have dropped, his rebounds and assists saw a slight uptick when compared to his previous season. During the recent matchup against the Toronto Raptors, his first game after four months, Robinson played for only 12 minutes but still managed to add 8 points and 2 rebounds to the overall score.

While the Knicks center may not be a reliable player on the offensive side, he helps to keep the other players points up through his rebounds. Out of 22 games he has played this season, Robinson has scored 10+ rebounds on 12 separate occasions. With a 9.9 average, none of his teammates have managed to surpass him on this statistic this season.
