The Warriors suffered their second loss to the Cavs last night, and it looked like nothing was going right for them. The 118-110 game revealed a lot about the places where they are lacking. The game unraveled a troubling side of the Warriors. To begin with, Draymond Green got himself ejected in the third quarter following two technical fouls.
This definitely contributed to their loss, but what was more concerning was Klay Thompson‘s poor performance last night, which could’ve played a bigger role in their brutal loss. There has been a series of consistently declining performances by Thompson this season, and this calls for deeper concern among the fans. He seems to have lost his touch and form, which could be bad news for the Warriors.
Thompson’s persistently poor performances this season

Once known as one of the ‘Splash Brothers‘ alongside Stephen Curry, Thompson seems to have mellowed out on his clean long-range shots. Out of 16 attempted shots last night, he could make only 5 shots. Struggling defensively, he also gave away three turnovers. Thompson managed only 14 points, 1 assist, and 5 rebounds. However, numbers aside, his overall performance was concerning, probably going down as one of his worst this season, as he acknowledged it himself.
Klay Thompson’s, who finished with 14 points and three turnovers, postgame press conference didn’t last long enough for him to make a paper airplane.
“That’s OK,” Thompson said. “(I) didn’t deserve to make an airplane after the crappy performance.”

We cannot ignore his previous performance in the conversation about his declining play. During the Warriors’ previous 108-105 loss to the Nuggets, he could clinch only 15 points, and this is coming from a top scorer who was known for dropping at least in the 30s each game. In the last five games, he has not reached the 20-point mark in any game. To cut him some slack, we cannot overlook that he has been struggling with some injuries recently. However, this consistent lack of dishing out points could harm the team in the long run.

Everything that was going wrong for the Warriors last night
Thompson’s Splash Brother Curry dropped 30 points last night, but without any proper assistance by Thompson, it was not enough against the offensively strong Cavs. The Warriors were also slowed down significantly by Draymond’s ejection in the third quarter after playing for just 18 minutes. He was ejected after the ref pinned a technical foul on him following an altercation with the Cavs’ PG Donovan Mitchell.
After losing to their Eastern Conference rivals for the second time this season, the Warriors now stand at 6-4. This comes after they enjoyed a 12-game winning streak in regular-season games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, dating back to 2016. They will have to work on bouncing back stronger for their next game against the Wolves on Sunday.
