The Golden State Warriors are soon set to face off against the Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center in California. With just eight games remaining for them in the regular season, the Warriors continue to rank as the 10th seed on the points chart. Therefore, they need to secure a win in each of their remaining matchups to attain a seed that would allow them to qualify for the playoffs. If not, then they could still secure a spot in the play-in tournament. Since lead scorer Stephen Curry wants to utilize his offensive lineup in the best manner, he requires the most prominent players from it to be present during the upcoming game. Given Klay Thompson’s recent knee injury, however, doubts have been raised whether the same would be possible.

A few hours ago, the official X handle of ‘Underdog NBA’ provided an update on the recent injury report released by the Golden State Warriors. It highlighted that Klay Thompson has been listed as ‘probable’ for Tuesday, marking high chances of him being present when his team takes on Luka Doncic and co.

According to head coach Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson had started feeling some soreness in his knee when the Warriors faced off against the Orlando Magic. While the player raised the assurance that there was nothing to worry about, his condition started to deteriorate during the pregame warmups. As a result, the 5-time NBA All-Star was dropped from the lineup during his team’s next game against the Charlotte Hornets. Despite being listed as questionable in the injury report during the most recent game against the Spurs, Thompson became available, scoring 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. While it was the lowest he scored when compared to his previous 4 games, Klay’s contributions helped the Warriors defeat Victor Wembanyama and the rest of the Spurs young roster by a score of 117-113.

For the Golden State team, Klay Thompson’s presence during the game will not only take the pressure off Stephen Curry but also help fill the gap left behind by power forward Jonathon Kuminga. The Warriors’ third-highest average scorer this season has been listed as “out” in the injury report due to developing bilateral knee tendonitis in both knees, currently missing his fourth consecutive game.

How has Klay Thompson performed against the Mavericks during his career?

Out of the 786 games that Klay Thompson has played during his 13-year NBA career, 36 have been against the Dallas Mavericks. Putting up an impressive score during his first 26 games, he averaged 22.2 points, with 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists during the same. However, his spot took a steep drop once Mavericks star Luka Doncic entered the ring. When going off against the Slovenian player during the other 10 games, Thompson could only manage to average 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

The small forward’s shooting capabilities haven’t been the most impressive when going up against the 2011 championship team. During their last 10 matchups, Thompson possessed a field goal percentage of 23.1%, while his three-pointer percentage was 28.6%. However, despite this stat, the Warriors won 6 of those 10 games. Therefore, if they wish to leave at least a memorable mark during the play-in series, they might need to continue maintaining that record.
