In the summer of 2009, Jordi Fernandez arrived in the United States as a counselor at Impact Basketball. He spoke English with a heavy accent and was assigned to younger players in the camp including, Elijah Brown son of then Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown. Fernandez impressed Brown so much so that he offered him $500, a place to stay, and his Range Rover to drive! So, it was a no-brainer for the young coach, who left his hometown in Spain and dropped out of college to train Brown’s son in Cleveland.
In his free time, Jordi would get access to attend the Cavs’ training and soon he would get picked up as Brown’s assistant after Danny Ferry, then GM of Cleveland also saw his potential. This was the time when the now-Brooklyn Nets head coach would meet his future wife while he dabbled between coaching Elijah and the Cavs. Kelsey lived nearby, and the two began a relationship. Since then, Jordi and Kelsey have been together through thick and thin and supported each other in their respective journeys.

Jordi Fernandez met his wife when he was just starting his journey in the NBA coaching circuit and landed his very first job at the Cavaliers. Despite Mike Brown losing the seat, Jordi was retained. He met Kelsey, who was from Rocky River, just next to Westlake.
The couple soon started seeing each other and developed a special bond. Since then, the two have navigated through Jordi’s coaching career, starting from Cleveland to Denver, then to Sacramento, and finally now at Brooklyn. “I’ve known him for 17 years now. I’ve seen his growth. He’s an amazing person. He’s ready for anything, for any head coaching job in the NBA,” said Fernandez’s mentor when he was announced as Nets head coach, his first lead job.

So whoever gets him would definitely be very, very lucky to have him as their head coach.” Jordi and Kelsey have two kids, a boy and a girl named Bowie and Lluna. The power couple has kept any further details under wraps.

Back in April 2024, the Brooklyn Nets hired Jordi Fernandez as their head coach, and with this news, his family had to give up their beautiful home in Sacramento, which had served them well from 2022-24. It was an amazing five-bedroom, 3,046-square-foot house at 2340 Castro Way, which they sold for around $1.47 million, as per The Sacramento Bee.
“He and his wife, they really loved the home,” said Matthew Hindy, who represents several Kings players and staff. He added, “They were extremely happy there, so they were really sad to see the home go. Some people don’t get emotionally attached, especially people in their business, because they don’t know how long they’re going to be there, but they’ve had so many events and gatherings there with coaches and other assistant coaches and members of the team. It was very emotional for them to sell that house.”
