Joel Embiid & Co. are hoping to shake off a frustrating four-game losing streak as they visit the FedEx Forum tonight. The Sixers’ last opponent was the Heat and suffice it to say, it was a dismal ending. To put it simply, Philly squandered a 19-point lead and fell apart in the second half as the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ faced an 89-106 loss at the hands of Miami.
If you remember, Coach Nurse called an emergency meeting immediately after and apologized for coming in late for the media session. Of course, the man was on the hot seat for not being able to turn the 76ers, popularly known as a pretending team of late, when they should have rightly been a contending team. But that’s a topic for another day. Right now, let’s see how the Sixers look on the injury front as well as the depth chart.
Starting off with Joel Embiid, it’s a relief to know that the 7-footer is not on the injury list. But given that it’s Embiid, things could play out either way. But as of now, ‘The Process’ does not have anything stopping him from suiting up. The other piece of great news is Tyrese Maxey.

Maxey, sidelined for the last six games due to a hamstring strain, is now upgraded to ‘Questionable’. It means that there is a legitimate chance the All-Star guard could take the floor. And if it does happen, it would be the first time Philly’s Big 3 will be playing together!
That said, the team has already listed veteran point guard Kyle Lowry ‘Out’. As per Tony Jones of The Athletic, “The 76ers announced Tuesday that Lowry has a right hip strain and will miss the team’s next three games.” Considering Maxey’s nearing return to action, Jared McCain, Jeff Dowtin, Eric Gordon, and Reggie Jackson are all candidates who can look forward to hearing their names called.
The Philadelphia 76ers depth chart as a potential Joel Embiid-led Big 3 might be in place
Among the names mentioned above, the Sixers’ rookie, McCain, has proved to be a true gem amidst the uphill battle the team is facing now. He’s been averaging 15.2 points while shooting a mesmerizing 47.7% from the field and 40.8% from deep. Not to mention, atop the Rookie of the Year board. There is no doubt that if he continues the way he’s been doing in 13 games this season, McCain could clinch the ROTY award.

But it’s not just the newcomer that’s been making waves. Kelly Oubre has also risen as a dependable role player amidst Maxey’s absence, Embiid’s injury drama and Paul George getting used to the ‘Keystone State’. So, straight to the depth chart, then?
POSITIONS | STARTERS | 2ND | 3RD |
PG | Tyrese Maxey | Kyle Lowry | Jared McCain |
SG | Jared McCain | Eric Gordon | Jeff Dowtin Jr. |
SF | Paul George | Kelly Oubre Jr. | KJ Martin |
PF | Caleb Martin | Guerschon Yabusele | KJ Martin |
C | Joel Embiid | Andre Drummond | Guerschon Yabusele |
The 76ers’ opponents, the Grizzlies, are turning out to be quite a resilient squad. Despite injuries, Memphis just secured a convincing 15-point win over the Denver Nuggets. Granted, Nikola Jokić hadn’t suited up for that matchup and the Nuggets got their revenge against them in the NBA Cup game, but it still says a lot about a team that’s in the 10th position in the West.

Also, it’s noteworthy that the Sixers have already suffered one humiliating loss at the hands of ‘The Volunteer State’ in early November. Can they avoid a repeat tonight? It certainly is a must-win situation for the Sixers, but we must remember the Grizzlies are no pushovers, either.
With the tip off scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, all eyes will be on Philly’s game-time injury updates and whether they can turn the tide against a Grizzlies squad.
