The Memphis Grizzlies are back facing the Houston Rockets. Houston took home the win on Wednesday, and Memphis is looking to get their payback. But smack in the middle of their run, one of their best guards had to take leave of the floor. Derrick Rose got injured during the game and has been confirmed to not return.
The 35-year-old veteran had to exit due to a left hamstring soreness. The Grizzlies are the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 6-17 record in their first 23 games.

While Rose’s career has been fraught with injuries, the Grizzlies are at a stage where they could use all the help they can get. With Ja Morant still out, and other key players sidelined with injuries, Rose’s exit tonight is definitely a cause for concern. As of now, all we can confirm is that he has a hamstring injury, but the severity and depth are still unknown.
The unfortunate affability of Rose and his injuries
It is unfavorable that Derrick is destiny’s favorite child for injuries. Add to it that the NBA league has a name for the same, the ‘Derrick Rose Syndrome’. Ankle injuries have affected “D-Rose” the most. Despite having an impressive achievement list, considering the injuries, many teams hesitate due to this reason.

The youngest player (22) to receive the MVP in 2011, his woes also began the same season. From a torn ACL in the 2012 playoffs to the most recent left knee soreness, there hasn’t been a season where “Pooh” was free from injury. With seven team changes in 15 years of his career, the 3x All-Star has been a potent offensive threat when healthy.
After a splendid 2010-11 season, in early 2012, the ACL surgery sidelined him for a whole year. October 2013 saw him make a return, only to have a torn meniscus a month later. That was another season without Derrick Rose. His next season absence happened in 2017 with the Knicks, when he tore the left knee meniscus.
In between, there were little mishaps, but these could probably be considered the biggest. Hopefully, tonight’s injury is on the ‘little’ side and the Memphis Grizzlies won’t have to lose another key piece.
