The Mavericks and the Celtics have both submitted their injury reports ahead of their clash. Let’s have a look at the Mavs’ report first and see who they’ll be missing on Thursday.
To start, Mavs fans, you may need to temper your expectations. Anthony Davis may not make his debut against the Celtics after he was listed as QUESTIONABLE on the injury report submitted by Dallas. The reason is the same abdominal muscle strain that caused him to miss a few games for the Lakers before his trade. New signee Caleb Martin is also OUT on Thursday since his trade hasn’t gone through yet.

Dwight Powell and Dereck Lively II will miss the Celtics game entirely due to injury. They are OUT nursing a right hip strain and a right ankle stress fracture, respectively. Lively may miss a few more games as he recovers while Powell might just regain fitness in time to play the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Additionally, PJ Washington is also OUT against the Celtics owing to personal reasons.
The Celtics are missing fewer players than their opponents on Thursday night. Youngsters JD Davison and Anton Watson are OUT of the Mavericks game owing to their two-way contracts. Meanwhile, Jrue Holiday is QUESTIONABLE for the Mavericks game with an impinged right shoulder.
Now that we know who the absentees will be on Thursday, let’s have a look at the lineups that both teams may field against each other.
Mavericks vs Celtics – predicted starting lineups and depth chart
Mavs fans may have to wait a little longer to see the newest additions to their team on the court. Here’s how the Mavericks may lineup tomorrow, given the absentees:

POSITION | STARTERS | 2nd UNIT | 3rd UNIT |
PG | Kyrie Irving | Spencer Dinwiddie | Jaden Hardy |
SG | Klay Thompson | Max Christie | Spencer Dinwiddie |
SF | Dante Exum | Naji Marshall | Klay Thompson |
PF | Naji Marshall | Olivier-Maxence Prosper | — |
C | Daniel Gafford | Kylor Kelley | — |
The Mavs are kind of short-handed heading into the Celtics game. Unable to field some of their new signees is partly why that’s the case. Naturally, this issue will resolve itself as the likes of Anthony Davis regain gameday fitness. However, this will hurt their chances against the Celtics.
The Celtics aren’t missing many players from their team. Only Jrue Holiday will be missing against the Mavericks on Thursday. However, unlike the Mavericks, there’s no dearth of rotation options at Boston. So here’s how they may look against the Mavericks:

The Celtics are clear favorites heading into the game against the Mavericks. However, with the likes of Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson on the Mavs’ roster, underestimating them may prove costly for Boston. Especially as they look to rebound from their 3-game skid.
