It’s that time of the season when the regular-season games pause, and basketball fans around the globe turn their attention towards the sporting spectacle, which is the NBA’s All-Star weekend. This year it is scheduled to take place between 16th to 18th February in Indianapolis. The 3-point contest is one of the main attractions of the All-Star weekend, and the NBA has lined up some of the best shooters in the league for the spectacle.
According to The Athletics’ Shams Charania, “Among the commitments for the NBA Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis: Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton, Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard and Malik Beasley, New York’s Jalen Brunson and Utah’s Lauri Markkanen.” However, some fans aren’t pleased with the participants of the competition.

The lineup for the 2024 3-point contest is very intriguing, comprising some of the best shooters in the league. Among the participants, Malik Beasley is the most efficient from downtown, shooting at an impressive 45.1% from the three-point range. On the flip side, Damian Lillard displays the least proficiency from beyond the arc, registering a 3-point shooting percentage of 34.7%.
Despite the quality on offer, the lineup of the contest has disappointed many fans. A fan going by the username of Matteomo17 wrote, “Why don’t just invite the ACTUAL best shooters in the league?”

Several fans felt that Suns’ guard Grayson Allen should participate in the contest. Allen is currently the most efficient 3-point shooter in the league, as he has shot 49.1% from beyond the arc. An Instagram user by the name of mills_griffin wrote, “Grayson Allen better be here…Hes literally the best 3pt shooter in the nba rn.” Another fan going by the username of 1estorjr. held the same viewpoint. He wrote, “No Grayson Allen is disrespectful.”

However, some fans were excited by the new set of participants despite them not being the best three-point shooters in the league. A fan by the username of daveed_austin516 wrote, “I know this ain’t the best but at least it’s a different group and you really don’t know who’s gonna win.”

Boston Celtics’ Sam Hauser was a name that the fans wanted to see in the 3-point contest. Currently, Hauser is shooting 41.6% from beyond the arc. Hauser has hit 111 shots from downtown this season. An Instagram user by the name of jordan_j_hinson expressed disappointment over Hauser not being included in the 3-point contest. He wrote, “WHERE IS SAM HAUSER??? Best 3 point % and can’t even bring the 3 point machine? Come on NBA! Make it happen NBA.”
