Minnesota Timberwolves player Rudy Gobert is currently making great strides to keep up with the Denver Nuggets during the ongoing Game 7. Within a span of 31 minutes, he has managed to put up a score of 12 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Along with his worthwhile contribution, the player also caught the attention of the attendees at the Ball Arena after making a unique layup while being effortlessly blocked by Nikola Jokic and co.

Gobert’s performance was good enough to earn him praise from Reggie Miller, former Indiana Pacers star and one of the main commentators of the night. However, the 58-year-old may have taken things too far after he went on to compare the Timberwolves player to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. This single remark of his was enough to earn him backlash from several NBA enthusiasts.

Barely a few minutes after the “Did he just pull the Michael Jordan?” comment went viral, many people took to social media to share their reaction. One of them exclaimed his surprise to have lived through a day when a Timberwolves player that is not Anthony Edwards would be compared to Michael Jordan. Unfortunately for him, that day is here. However, the fan indicated a feeling that if anyon would do something like this, it would only be Reggie Miller.

This is not the first time that Reggie Miller has made use of the six-time NBA champion’s name to make some reportedly absurd comparisons. It was only a month ago when the former player made headlines after stating that “Michael Jordan on his worst day is 10 times better than Kobe Bryant on his best day”. One can make the case of how both players are the GOATs in their own rights. However, making MJ “10 times” better than the Black Mamba only places the latter in an underestimated position.

James Stewart, an individual who holds a special interest in Wrestling, also chose to enter the NBA world for a brief moment and highlight his shock over the Gobert-Jordan comparison. All that was needed to highlight his thoughts on this topic was a simple emoji.

According to his profile, Stewart has hosted his very own podcast, ‘Stick to Wrestling’, for quite some time now. Other than that, he has published several articles for a couple of news outlets. If a Wrestling Enthusiast like Stewart would take to X to highlight such a brief moment from a NBA game, then you know that it can definitely be deemed conversation-worthy.

Another social media user highlighted his belief that Gobert did not even do anything extraordinary to receive the Michael Jordan comparison. Instead, he just made a normal layup. To highlight his frustration over this, the individual made use of the ‘Angry Fist’ meme from the long-running animated series ‘The Simpsons’.

It is not completely true to state that Gobert’s layup was not anything extraordinary. To engage in the action, the player had to drive to the baseline while being meticulously blocked by both Nikola Jokic and Kentavious-Caldwell Pope. He had to successfully distract the double tagging defence duo and make a fadeaway over the three-time reigning MVP to get the ball through the hoop.

People continued to follow the same path as the one created by the above-mentioned individuals, with a mockery of Miller’s remarks being the general vibe.

Overall, people in the comments section were united in their disbelief. While many of them believed that Gobert’s shot was a unique one, they did not believe that it brought the Timberwolves player on the same level as one of the greatest basketball athletes to ever walk the face of the earth.

Having set a 4-3 record against the Nuggets, the Timberwolves will now head to the Western Conference Finals and compete against the Dallas Mavericks. It remains to be seen whether Rudy Gobert will be able to pull off such unique moves against Luka Doncic and Co as well.
