Just when the Dubs Nation thinks the Warriors can’t get any lower, Steve Kerr’s men spring up with a surprise. And that too, in the worst way possible. Like the latest 40-point blowout loss to the Celtics. While the team needs fresh changes to turn the season around, so far, Mike Dunleavy has been quiet. Now, with the team’s leaders, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green sending direct signals about not mortgaging the franchise’s future with desperate trade attempts, Mike Dunleavy needs to pick his poison. Either he’s making the call, or he is conceding to decisions not of his own. A perfect recipe for conflict within the organization.
According to Bay Area insider, Logan Murdock, Mike Dunleavy is caught in a crossfire. Talking about the missteps of the Warriors front office, the insider said, “Mike Dunleavy, not necessarily getting the autonomy or knowing what it’s like to not get the autonomy when you’re the Warriors GM, when you have an owner like Joe Lacob, who’s constantly meddling on every single deal, who is pushing you to sign Kuminga to a big deal when, you know, the coaches keep telling you, ‘Hey, I don’t think he’s that consistent.'”
The decision on Kuminga is a big one. He will be a free agent next summer if the Warriors don’t decide otherwise. Owner, Joe Lacob wants the extension to happen but Kerr is apprehensive of that due to JK’s inconsistency and Dunleavy is aware of that. On the same issue, Anthony Slater also chimed in on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast. Kuminga’s contract situation “maybe the biggest decision they have to make really over the next calendar year,” the Athletic reporter told.

He even added a remedy to the Warriors’ troubles. “I’m not saying they shouldn’t try to make the playoffs. And I’m not saying that making the playoffs wouldn’t be good for them. I’m saying there’s another benefit here,” Slater said. And the benefit is getting a good draft option next year. This is not in line with the expectations a franchise like the Warriors should have.
Steve Kerr is certainly the man in the crosshair of the fam fury regarding the recent run of form. To make things worse, Kuminga’s injury has exposed the hole for a third star in the team. Dennis Schroder hasn’t been that, Buddy Hield failed to show any consistency. So when will exactly Kerr will get Kuminga back?

Ahead of the Kings game, Steve Kerr shared an update on JK. “[Kuminga’s] progressing, but it was a pretty bad ankle sprain, and he hasn’t been on the court yet or anything,” Kerr said on 95.7 The Game’s Willard & Dibs. “But he’s getting rehab every day, and he’s doing strength stuff and he’s on the bike, so he’s doing as well as possible. But he’s nowhere close to being ready.”
Anthony Slater also shared a grave update on the injury. “It’s gonna be a bit,” he told on the same show. “He’s out of the walking boot… He needs to kinda look out for himself a little bit at this point and make sure he’s ready”
As for the timeline, Slater predicted a return in mid February is possible. Till then the Dubs’ 21-21 record could turn uglier and could massively decide their playoff fate. But decisions are yet to be made to combat the situation. And if there is a decision to be made, Kerr would certainly like that to be before the Feb 6 trade deadline.
