The Klay Thompson situation has taken an interesting turn after his recent move. While fans hoped that the situation would improve, the Sea Captain unfollowed the Warriors on Instagram. Not only that, but Klay also deleted most of the Warriors-related posts, including moments from his previous title run. With what seemed to have a possible solution, it seems highly unlikely that Klay will wear a Warriors uniform again. Thompson’s recent actions on social media suggest a deeper strategy at play after swirling trade rumors and uncertainties about his future.
Moreover, Thompson built his career in the Bay, becoming one of the greatest shooters in history while also winning four titles in the process. His achievements can be praised all night, but the recent few years have been a struggle for him and the Warriors. Making his comeback in January 2022, KT came in strong. However, following his fourth championship run, the next couple of seasons were no less of a disaster.
"It's a strategic move… [Klay] can use it as leverage, it's kind of a Klay Thompson move, I mean, who else on the Golden State Warriors would scrub their social media, other than Klay Thompson?" – @evanAgiddings

In light of these challenges, does this move confirm his departure from Golden State after 12 long years? While we can’t be fully aware of his decision, it does alarm the free agency market at best. On the other hand, Evan Giddings, the radio voice of the Bay, thought Klay’s latest to be more of a tactical step. “It’s a strategic move… (Klay) can use it as leverage, it’s kind of a Klay Thompson move, I mean, who else on the Golden State Warriors would scrub their social media, other than Klay Thompson?“, said Giddings. Whereas Dan Devone also had a similar take on the same.
Given these circumstances, as bad as the situation already was, KT did show the desire to play and retire in a Warriors jersey. Nevertheless, his recent pull on Instagram does dictate a lot for his future team. Thompson is going to be one of the major look-outs in the free agency this summer and teams will be more than interested.
What does free agency look like for Klay Thompson?
Thompson’s performance this season was the worst of his career. However, he can still be a great threat on the floor despite his struggles. But this can only be a possibility if KT looks to work on his flaws. If Klay looks to move to the East, he will be looking at offers from big-time contenders. The most talked about team in the East who might be inclined towards him is the Sixers. Playing alongside the MVP, upcoming superstar, Tyrese Maxey, and others, Thompson would indeed be a great fit in Philly.
One bad season can’t dictate his future potential, but the 34-year-old still has a lot left in him. There are gonna be teams from the bottom tiers like the Bulls, the Pistons, and other decent playoff teams showing interest in the veteran. Overall it will be interesting to watch Thompson’s free agency play out this offseason.
There hasn’t been any progress from the Warriors regarding re-signing Thompson in any possible way. It does seem that KT will be looking at a new destination after a long time and it will be news to look out for.
