Is the fat-shaming of Mitchell Robinson justified, or are fans being too harsh on an injured player?

Disappointed fans abuse Mitchell Robinson, unforgivingly. The New York Knicks center has had a long stay off the court, dealing with an ankle injury. While the 26-year-old was expected to make his return for the season opener, the latest report has stated that the big man might have to wait a little longer. Moreover, after the recent blockbuster trade, the NY side hinted at another trade anytime now. Amid this jittery situation, Robinson dropped a message to self. However, fans show no mercy.

The 7 ‘0 tall big man isn’t new to expressing his mind on social media. In fact, the star recently had restless social media activity, uploading a series of IG stories after the Kat trade. Nevertheless, this time around, Robinson took a relaxed approach, sharing a positive message to himself. The NY big man took to his IG stories and wrote, “I really be in That weight room 1% better every day,” with a palm on the face emoji. It’s more of a manifestation that Robinson has relied on, in his road to recovery.

Keeping his positive attitude aside, it’s important to note that Mitchell Robinson hasn’t had a healthy season so far in his career. In his 6-season-long career, the star has played 70+ games in only one season. And, heading into the fresh season, the latest update revealed that the big man could only return to court either in December or January, almost losing two months of the regular season.

On the other hand, the team has roped in another 7 ‘0 center Karl-Anthony Towns to secure the frontcourt. So, Robinson’s absence for the next few months won’t affect the Knicks until the reserves take care of the rotation. At the same time, Kris Pursiainen, a senior reporter, revealed that the Knicks are “receiving and taking calls” on Robinson and might make a deal soon. Amid this situation, the injury-bound star faces online abuse from fans.

“Bro is trending in a bad direction”- No mercy for Micthell Robinson

The Knicks center has been linked to weight-gain conversation in the past as well. But, he didn’t feel the pressure like how Zion Williamson faced in the past. Notably, in 2020, Robinson intentionally put on some weight. Speaking of it, he said, “My post defense is better than it was. I was 240 — now I’m 250, solid. I feel good about that.” Apart from that, fans have also raised concerns on his fitness multiple times.

And, now, Robinson’s manifestation to hit the gym didn’t seem to sit well with fans. A fan reacting to it, wrote, “No bullshit someone within the Knicks – either FO or one of the team captains – needs to take Mitch’s socials away as soon as the season starts. Bro is trending in a bad direction.”

Is the fat-shaming of Mitchell Robinson justified, or are fans being too harsh on an injured player?

Have an interesting take?

Another fan took a jab at the Knicks center from his statement. While Robinson looked to get better atleast 1% a day, this fan wrote, “You’ve gotten worse at free throw shooting 1% every season.” Well, the fan wasn’t wrong, as Rob’s FT% gone down from 60.0 to 40.9 in the last six seasons. Along with that, the fan had a ruthless advice, “You can eat sour patches and beef patties. You’re not a starting center anymore. Just work on your free throws and do some yoga.”

Importantly, fans weren’t going easy on the fitness comments, as they resorted to outright fat-shaming. A fan wrote, “He’s lying, mans is round as hell.” Despite the team’s urgency in finding a center, a fan didn’t mind another injury for Rob, as they wrote, praying for another injury can’t have that muncher out there.” Will the Knicks center get back in the lab and prove his critics wrong like Zion Williamson did? Let us know in the comments.
