“Everybody wants me to get downhill. I know that’s my strength… But I can’t do that if there’s no lanes.” Just last month, Anthony Edwards revealed his frustration about constantly having to fight double teams. But he has come a long way since then, along with his team. The Wolves have finally regained their rhythm and climbed to the seventh seed in the West. Their latest win coming tonight against the Nuggets. And Edwards? Well, he proved that he has more than one trick in his bag as he made history despite being under the weather. Turns out, his ten-month-old daughter, Aislynn, was the reason behind the added motivation.
Yes, Ant was questionable heading into the game. The reason? An unknown illness. However, he eventually suited up and went off for 34 points to help his team win. In that process, Edwards also surpassed former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns to become the franchise leader in three-pointers made. Although he only made three triples, that was enough to cross KAT’s 975 threes mark. And the funny thing is, Anthony didn’t even realize his accomplishment until after the game.
When asked about it postgame, he responded in complete shock, “Oh! For real? That’s what they were saying up there? I thought they were saying most threes attempted. I didn’t know.” That just goes to show he is only focused on winning. Moreover, he also gave assurance about his health, “That’s great. Now I gotta go home and be a dad to my little girl even though I’m sick. So, I’ll be alright.”

Now that he got the W, Edwards is back to performing Dad Duty. While the forward remains rather private about his daughter, it is clear that he loves her a lot as she was the first person who came to his mind after tonight’s big win.

Well, Ant was not a great deep-range shooter when he first joined the league. In his rookie year, he shot 32.7%. However, that number has grown to 42.6% this season, adding to his versatility. He revealed how being a better shooter has helped him, “It helps a lot man coz now teams got to get up. And I’m able to get downhill a little easier when I’m taking on one defender. It makes them respect my shot a lot more.” Obviously, he had the Wolves staff to thank for his progress, “I appreciate all my trainers for that.”
While Edwards did his thing tonight, even his teammates stepped up to get the win. And Ant mentioned one player who he thought made the biggest difference, “The way Rudy played. Rudy set the tone for us man. He came out with a lot of energy, made all the right plays and we trusted him in the pocket tonight and he made the right plays.” Yes, the four-time DPOY had a 14-point double-double, which played a massive role in the blowout win.
