The NBA trade market is buzzing this Saturday. The Knicks and the Wolves made blockbuster moves. First, NY announced Karl-Anthony Towns as its latest addition. He’s stepping in for Julius Randle, who will join the Wolves next season. Randle’s replacement came as a shock because coach, Tom Thibodeau was looking at him as the main man beside Jalen Brunson. Donte DiVincenzo is also heading to Minnesota. It’s been a day of mixed emotions, as KAT leaves the Wolves after 9 years. On the other hand, the Knicks are ending Randle’s 6 years of service. Amid these bittersweet moments, Mitchell Robinson surprised everyone with an unexpected twist.
Injuries have plagued Robinson’s NBA career. He won’t be playing until sometime between December and January, because of a stress injury on his left foot. Despite becoming the longest-tenured Knicks star, the team is failing to rely on him to the fullest. Meanwhile, Julius Randle, who was just second to Robinson in terms of tenure, also suffered the setback of injuries. He is currently healing from his shoulder surgery and will hopefully return to the court in the preseason for the Wolves.
Mitchell Robinson thought it would be the right time to remind the NBA community that he’s still serving the Knicks, while others have been replaced. Taking this matter up on his social media, Robinson shared an image of the 2020-21 roster of the Knicks. He pointed out that he’s the last remaining member of the now-traded lot, which includes RJ Barrett and Julius Randle. He further wrote, “I’m really a great vibe. Longest Knick. Risking my body to get the job done really paid off.”

A closer look at the former roster reveals that the Knicks traded players like Elfrid Payton, Kevin Knox, and others. Surprisingly, the team appeared interested in keeping Julius Randle, making his replacement a shock. So, when Mitchell Robinson shared such an ‘odd’ Instagram story, fans couldn’t keep calm. Given the fact that the Black Panther is one of the most revered hoopers of the Knicks, the supporters wasted no time in calling out Robinson for his bad timing.
Mitchell Robinson triggers fans’ wrath, who were letting Julius Randle’s heartbreaking trade news sink in
Julius Randle is undeniably a valuable asset in the NBA and a 3x All-Star for a reason. Despite his injury history, the New York Knicks trusted his skills on the court. With him gone and Karl-Anthony Towns taking over, the team’s gameplay will change. Meanwhile, fans are roasting Mitchell Robinson, who has sparked a strong sentiment within them. While Randle is expected to improve his playoff performance, Robinson’s availability remains uncertain.
“Dude has always been insecure and childish as hell lmao he obviously is sick KAT took his job and is trying to find ways to feel good about himself. He’s lucky he aint been on the block,” a fan wrote.
There is no surety when Mitchell Robinson will resume on the court, so KAT is the most probable replacement until the hooper returns. However, some analysts strongly believe that, unlike Julius Randle, who could open the games for the Wolves once he returns from his injuries, such prospects are dim for Mitchell Robinson. Last season, he missed 3+ months before returning to the hardwood and injuring himself again during the playoffs. This simply means he could get the role of the 6th man in the Knicks squad.

Many believe that Mitchell Robinson is walking on extremely thin ice. Recently, there had been rumors that the Knicks were considering to trade him instead of Julius Randle. However, his injuries somewhat acted as a shield, making him one of the most unwanted candidates with no guarantee of a said return. Therefore, sharing such a post now seems questionable. The Knicks traded their trusted star to a top team like the Wolves, even with his dislocated shoulder.
“He know he might be on the chopping block because of his injury history. Mitch and some picks for Kessler is very possible and probable,” a fan posted on X. One thing is for sure, Mitchell Robinson won’t be starting the preseason, or the initial few games of next season. “(Knicks) are being careful not to rush Robinson back until he’s 100 percent healthy, meaning it could be a longer absence depending on the 26-year-old’s recovery,” a league source told the NY Post.
This news surely brought beads of perspiration to the front office’s forehead. Moreover, the team has been eyeing Nick Richards from the Hornets- could he be the actual replacement for Robinson? The possibility isn’t low. But will the Hornets choose an injury-stricken Mitchell?
“Making it very hard to like him anymore!” a netizen reacted. “Keep crying,” another individual wrote. Fans seem to support Julius Randle more than Mitchell Robinson, who has faced harsh criticism and been called “selfish.” Meanwhile, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Randle and the Knicks had made “no progress” on a contract extension. This left Randle uncertain about his role in the team’s new core. It seems the Knicks are aiming for a fresh perspective, sidelining old faces for new ones.
Both players could have been crucial but missed their chances because of injuries. Randle played 46 games, while Robinson only played 31. Amidst this, Robinson appears to be trying to prove a point with his social media posts, which have only fueled fans’ disappointment and led to harsh reactions.
