“He is dramatically better. And that’s how this is supposed to go,” said Steve Kerr, speaking about Jonathan Kuminga‘s improvement in the last three seasons. Importantly, the Congolese baller had a breakout season last year, averaging 16.1 points in his third year. Now heading into the new season, he has emerged as one of the important offense machines for the Dubs. Moreover, with his evolution, Kuminga looks to take the load off Stephen Curry and also has a big agenda amid Draymond Green’s one concerning doubt.

It’s safe to say that the 6 ‘7 forward grew up as a player right in front of our eyes. Initially, the young gun came into the side as a reserve, playing the garbage minutes. And slowly found himself a spot in the mix, making impactful plays whenever given a chance. Last season, Kuminga started 46 times and consistently proved his worth as a starter.

Heading to the 2024-25 season without Klay Thompson and an out-of-form Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga had his agenda set right. It is to take over the #2 spot of the great Golden State Warriors‘ offense. Speaking of which, he said, “My teammates trust me, my coaches trust me. They pushed me to be that guy. Obviously, Draymond Green was a big part of it.”

While JK has his plans set out for the season, he also has an important task at hand which is taking the pressure off Stephen Curry. Consequently, if Kuminga plans to become the #2 offense, he will aim to take the load off Steph. In a sitdown with 95.7 The Game, he continued, ” I could come to this year and be that guy and not force anything…If it’s to score 10 points and do the rest of the things right, I am that guy… being the best second guy is not coming in and dropping 30 every night. Basketball doesn’t work that way… I see myself helping and taking that load off Steph.

On the other hand, Draymond Green raises serious questions regarding JK’s position on the floor. With both stars having played in the same position so far, who’s going to give up?

6 ‘6 tall Draymond Green, despite his height, has played both as a center and power forward throughout his career. Undeniably, DrayMagic is the working mind behind the Warriors’ serious offense. So, it’s necessary to give him the spot that he wishes for. Notably, after the entry of Trayce Jackson-Davis and Quinten Post, the center (5) is already sealed for the rest of the season. And, the only option left for Green is power forward (4), which he has to share with Jonathan Kuminga.

Especially after JK revealed his ambitions to be second best offense player on the side, Steve Kerr would increase his time on the court. He averaged 26-odd minutes in the last season and the number might go beyond 30 minutes now. This leaves the Dubs on a crucial pending decision on picking its standard No.4. Amid this confusion, Green recently raised a concern along with a logical explanation.

“You don’t think anybody can play point guard. The 4 is the same thing. It requires a certain skill set, a certain knowledge, a certain understanding of that position to do that,” said Green, speaking of the skill requirement for the power forward position. And, most importantly, he asked whether Kuminga possessed those skills, saying, “Can he adjust and learn that? I don’t know.” Eventually suggesting a small forward (3) position for the 21-year-old. Can Kuminga and Green facilitate the Warriors another ring? Let us know in the comments below.
