There’s something sad and concerning in the air of San Francisco. Yes, it’s the Palisades wildfire. But lately, it’s also been about the Golden State Warriors not doing their usual championship-winning team activities. As if all that wasn’t enough already, the radio world said goodbye to one of their favorite voices in the Bay Area— Bonta Hill. All good things do end, and that’s exactly what 95.7 The Game experienced on January 31.

Hill grew up loving San Francisco sports, always ready to argue his take. He dreamed of writing, but that changed at San Francisco State University when radio stole his heart. And, his passion landed him alongside the legendary Greg Papa, a dream gig—until Papa left for the 49ers. Hill’s future then hung in the balance. Enter Matt Nahigan, the boss who believed in him. Thanks to Nahigan, Hill found his voice again, leading The Morning Roast with Joe Shasky and Kate Scott.

But now, he’s saying goodbye to his spot in the NBC Sports Bay Area that he joined in 2020. His announcement came as a shock to many, as some deep insights and true reasons behind the exit came to light. Known to be the voice in the Warriors Pregame Live and Warriors Postgame Live, Hill will also host the Dubs Talk podcast alongside Monte Poole. Meanwhile, Hill announced:

“It’s a feeling that has left a lot of knots in my stomach over the last month. It’s been tough, today’s been a day that we’ve looked at this show…I’m saying goodbye to the Roast right now. I’ve decided that I need to walk away from the show. Now I’m not walking away from the station, details about that will come a little later, but I’m taking a step back from The Morning Roast.” But, why is the radio show host leaving his post? Are we not going to hear his voice in favor or against the Golden State Warriors run in the 2024-25 NBA season?

Bonta Hill shared: “First and foremost, I had to do it due to family and health. There are three days a week when I don’t even see Chezna or my fiance. I’m just, I’m not traveling to New York or Philadelphia. I’m going down a chase center. Something had to give, and burning the midnight oil at both fans, I’ve done it for four for four. Half years and it got to me, it got to me, and so these hours are tough, and family, first and foremost my health, the lack of sleep that I was getting.”

What’s your perspective on:

Will Bonta Hill's departure from The Morning Roast leave a void in Bay Area sports radio?

Have an interesting take?

Hill’s exit from The Morning Roast marks another shake-up in Bay Area sports radio. The Game cut ties with Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto in 2023, while KNBR let go of Tom Tolbert and John Lund. Even management shifted, with Kieran Geffert taking over in 2024. Change is everywhere. But for Hill, a San Francisco native who built his career in this city, the connection to Bay Area sports runs deeper than any station.

However, the voice of the Golden State Warriors on the radio isn’t fading away—just shifting gears. He’s bringing fresh energy to game-day coverage while staying loyal to 95.7 The Game. “I’m not going anywhere,” he promised. This station, this show—it still means everything to him.

How will Bonta Hills continue to be a part of the Golden State Warriors?

Bonta Hill is trading early mornings for something bigger. He’s stepping away from The Morning Roast to take on a full-time role at NBC Sports Bay Area. Now, his voice will echo across Warriors, Giants, and 49ers coverage—his impact growing, and his reach expanding. He has been a staple at NBC Sports Bay Area since 2020, leading Warriors Pregame Live and Postgame Live. Now, he’s doubling down—co-hosting Dubs Talk with Monte Poole, diving deeper into Golden State Warriors coverage. Twice a week, exclusive stories. Game days? He’s everywhere—covering the Giants, and 49ers, and bringing his voice to every screen.

What I’m looking forward to is continuing to grow what we already have going on with the Warriors Pre and Postgame show. And hopefully, I can bring that energy across all platforms when it comes to digital, the Giants, the Niners, and in a new workplace where it’s going to challenge me to be better.” Hill said about what excited him most about his new role at NBC.

Meanwhile, the president and general manager of NBC Sports Bay Area, Matt Murphy praised the veteran radio host for his impact over the past four years. “Bonta is a knowledgeable, passionate, and entertaining professional who has made a tremendous impact over the last four years,” Murphy said. “We are excited to have him join us full-time, extending his contributions across all our platforms.”
