When Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in 2016, many NBA fans were in shambles. He joined a team that posted the best record ever during the preceding season. This was a team that was 3-1 in the Finals but was overwhelmed by the LeBron and Irving-led Cavs. Therefore, many folks were disappointed that an MVP-level player was joining such a stacked team. People felt it was the easy way out. But for the Warriors fans, this news was music to their ears. They knew that they were on the cusp of more NBA glory.

And it was certainly so as they won two more chips with the offensive maestro. KD won two Finals MVP and made most of the key shots. Therefore, Dubs fans cherish his contributions as an instant impactmaker. Now that he has his second coming to the Warriors, the buzz is stronger than ever.

Since KD has left the Warriors, he has been unable to reach the Conference Finals. With the Nets, it was a mess from start to finish. During his tenure with them, he missed more than half of the games. It was a start-stop-start affair from the beginning. But even amidst this chaos, he managed an appearance in the Chase Center, the home battleground of the Warriors.

However, this appearance came during an inopportune time. It was in February 2021 when COVID-19 was raging unrelentingly. It was the period of social distancing and Dubs fans were deprived of catching their hero again. During that appearance, he put up 20 points, six assists, five rebounds, and two blocks to carry the Nets to a 133:117 win against a haphazard Warriors squad.

Kevin Durant on his return

Talking to Andscape, he talked about returning in front of the Warriors fans. He stated, ”I’ve played there without the fans and I played against them in an arena where they were [the visiting team]. But definitely, Bay Area fans are one of a kind. So, I know they’re going to show love, but I’m not expecting nothing extra, to be honest.” These comments are in line with the cool-as-cucumber demeanor of Durantala.

At any rate, Warriors fans are expected to give him a resounding applause. The history between the two is of mutual respect. However, they’d only want a win for Stephen Curry and crew.
