Kawhi Leonard won his first Championship and Finals MVP trophy in 2014, playing for the San Antonio Spurs. He played the first seven years of his career under the leadership of Gregg Popovich in San Antonio. So, Kawhi would never have imagined that he would get booed by the Spurs fans every time he returned to their arena in a different uniform. Even tonight, fans let the 2-time Finals MVP know he was not welcome in his old home.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich tried to neutralize the situation, but that riled up the San Antonio crowd even more.

The San Antonio Spurs went head-to-head against the Los Angeles Clippers tonight. Clippers? superstar Kawhi Leonard got booed by the San Antonio crowd every time he touched the ball or went to the free-throw line. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich tried to calm the crowd down by grabbing the mic in the middle of Kawhi?s shots and saying, ?That?s not who we are.? Popovich?s plea riled up the crowd even more, and the booing intensified for Kawhi?s second shot. San Antonio fans have still not gotten over Kawhi leaving the Spurs to join the Toronto Raptors in 2018.

 

Kawhi has been getting booed by the Spurs crowd ever since he left. The Spurs have not had any significant success since Kawhi left the team in 2018. Meanwhile, Kawhi won another Championship the very next year he left San Antonio. He led the Toronto Raptors to their first-ever title and won his second Finals MVP trophy. That did not sit well with the San Antonio fanbase, as Kawhi could have achieved the same feat by staying with the Spurs.

The LA Clippers are the only team that Kawhi has been a part of that has not won an NBA Championship. He joined forces with Paul George in LA in 2019 following his Championship season with the Raptors. But frequent injuries have prevented the duo from bringing a Championship to the Clippers franchise. The LA Clippers probably have one of their most skilled rosters this season.

They have 2 former MVPs in James Harden and Russell Westbrook, a 2-time Finals MVP in Kawhi Leonard, and an 8-time All-Star in Paul George. This year might be their best shot at winning the title. Kawhi is completely healthy after a long time and has been performing at an elite level. Now, it is up to the four superstars and head coach Tyronn Lue to figure out how to make things work and get their hands on the Larry O?Brien trophy.
