Over the years, LeBron has made it very clear that he wants to share an NBA court with his son, Bronny James before he retires. And that lifelong dream could become a reality this very month as Bronny is part of the draft pool. While he was projected to go undrafted by ESPN’s initial mock draft, the 19-year-old has significantly upped his value in the pre-draft processes, even making some wonder whether he will be a first-round pick! Amid rising interest from multiple teams, LeBron’s former teammate Channing Frye advised him to put a hold on his dream in case Bronny gets a chance to play under legendary coach Gregg Popovich.
Discussing Bronny’s potential destinations on The Dan Patrick Show, Frye revealed where he would want the USC star to go if he were in LeBron’s shoes, stating two interesting reasons. “If that was my son, I would want him to go to San Antonio.” While most reports suggest the Lakers will pick the youngster as their 17 pick and team him up with his dad, there have been speculations that the Spurs might utilize one of their 4 picks to select the teen.
And while it will not fulfill LeBron’s dream, Channing claims the move to San Antonio will benefit Bronny James’ career for two major reasons, “Number 1. The system.” Despite being a small market team, they’ve produced some of the best talent the league has ever seen. Coach Pop’s system provides the perfect setup for a young athlete to learn ‘winning basketball’ rather than hero-ball. So, it will likely be the perfect environment for Bronny to stay away from the drama and focus on developing his skills under one of the best.

“2. You’re literally getting ready to play with the face of the league, Victor Wembanyama,” Frye said. While the Spurs finished with the second-worst record in the West, Wemby proved in his rookie season that he will be an unstoppable force in the future. With abilities the world has never seen before, Victor could be the face of his franchise and the entire league! As a point guard and a decent shooter, Bronny could be a great fit alongside the Frenchman while finding his footing in the league.
Will LeBron James be okay with letting his dream go?
Yes, it will probably sting LeBron if he doesn’t get to team up with his son. However, Channing believes the responsibility of being a father and watching Bronny land in the right situation comes first, “At the end of the day, he is a dad… If his son is good enough to play in the league and he’s in the league, he’s won. He’s done his job as a dad.” King James understands how good of a coach Popovich is as he has admired the legend’s work ever since he was a teen making his way in the league. Just this season, the Laker deemed him one of the greatest coaches of all time. So, watching his son grow in Coach Pop’s wing will likely make LeBron very happy.

And the Spurs currently have four picks in this year’s draft, two in the first round and two in the second. While it is unlikely that they will use their two lottery picks to draft Bronny, one of their 35 or 48 second-round pick could be perfect for the Spurs to take the risk and select the USC star. With his performance at the Combine, where he shocked everyone with his 40.5-inch vertical leap and incredible shooting, Bronny showed that he has great potential if put in the right situation. And there might be no better situation for him than the Spurs, who produced three ROTY every time they got the first pick in the draft.
