O’Shea Jackson Sr., more commonly known as Ice Cube, is a well-known figure in the world of basketball. Aside from his deep loyalty to the Lakers, the popular rapper also owns a league of his own. The BIG3, a 3×3 basketball league, founded over seven years ago, has seen tremendous growth. Of course, the Barbershop series star’s marketability and global fame have contributed to its success, too. But right now, the California native is going viral for a different reason.
No doubt, by now you are aware of Ice Cube’s $150,000 challenge to the men’s 3×3 basketball Olympic winners. Media veteran, Chris Broussard, known for his hot takes on trending topics, didn’t waste any time weighing in on this. In the latest episode of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker, the FSR gives his take. And they are in favor of Ice Cube’s BIG3.

“You gotta love Ice Cube. The dude’s a terrific businessman … This would be great for his league if they beat the Olympic Champion. That’s a big deal!” he stated.
It sure would be a huge deal. Given that Ice Cube has been vocal about his disappointment in the roster USA put together to his more pointed statements about the NBA’s refusal to embrace his BIG3 if his All-Stars do manage to overpower the 2024 Olympic champions, it would speak volumes about the talent they have. It’s, after all, something Jackson continues to remind the public at every opportunity.
But was that all? Broussard’s next comments show just what exactly he thinks of the gold-winning Dutch players. “I don’t know who the Netherlands has. I mean, I’m trying to think. Who’s the NBA player, ever, from the Netherlands? There’s probably one or two, but anybody knows one off the top of their head?” he asked his co-host for the day, Martin Weiss.

The Sports Rap Radio host, for his part, answered in the negative. Perhaps trying to soften the blow, Broussard said that he isn’t familiar with the All-Stars of the BIG3 either. But the message was clear – the Netherlands, the very team that just clinched the gold at the Summer Olympics, is hardly a threat.
Ice Cube couldn’t bear to see the lack of respect for the United States on the international stage
Watching the struggles of the United States in the 3×3 basketball competition in France, Jackson Sr. was simply disappointed. And when they faced an early defeat, losing 5 of their 7 pool games, the 55-year-old record producer had seen enough. That’s when he made the high-stakes challenge official.
“We’ll get the players that’s ready to go, ready to represent the United States, and bring some respect, put some respect on the name,” the 2024 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner stated emphatically. “At the end of the day, we’re not seeing the best that we have in Paris and that’s because of pettiness and politics,” he added, the subtle dig not lost on anyone hearing it.
Whoever won the gold medal, which turned out to be the Netherlands, was invited to go head-to-head against his Big3 ahead of their championship game on August 18. It would be an all-expenses-paid trip, with, as you saw above, some big bucks for the winners.
