Kevin Durant has been one of the best players in the NBA for over a decade. His size, combined with his shot-making abilities, make him the original unicorn. However, despite his undeniable talent, Durant remains one of the most polarizing players in the league. His inability to win an NBA title without Stephen Curry and the Warriors has somewhat tainted his legacy. His stint with the Brooklyn Nets, in particular, was underwhelming at best.
Despite having the likes of KD, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, the Nets’ best finish was an Eastern Conference semifinal defeat to the Bucks in 2021. After that season, James Harden left for greener pastures. In a recent interview, KD made an honest admission about Harden’s departure.

In 2020-21, the Brooklyn Nets constructed a roster consisting of the likes of Durant, Kyrie, and Harden. However, the “big three” era in Brooklyn didn’t go according to the script. Harden left Brooklyn for the Philadelphia Sixers in the offseason. In a recent interview, Durant spoke on this saying, “No doubt that I was pis*ed about the situation. I’m sure he was pis*ed about having to move teams again. When the smoke clears, you realize that’s somebody you came into the league with, somebody I really, really love as a brother… I want what’s best for him and his family going forward.”

The Nets were expected to destroy any team that stood in their way of the NBA title. However, due to constant injuries, they couldn’t ever gel as a team. In two years, the trio could only manage to play 16 games together, winning 13 of them. The team also suffered from a lack of quality role players because the Nets hierarchy traded most of the good players in order to acquire Harden. Although KD’s Brooklyn experiment might not have worked, KD still has a shot at winning another title with the Phoenix Suns.

Can KD win the NBA title with the Suns?
After leaving the Nets, Kevin Durant joined forces with Devin Booker in Phoenix. Following a poor display in the 2023 playoffs, the Suns decided to completely overhaul their roster. In the offseason, the Suns traded away Chris Paul for 3x All-Star, Bradley Beal. The veteran’s addition made them one of the favorites for the titles.

However, the Suns have underperformed so far this season. Due to the massive contracts of their three stars, the Suns had to fill up the rest of the roster spots with minimum contract players. This has created a huge problem, as the Suns lack depth. Their lack of quality options on the bench has relegated them to a mid-table position. At the moment, the Suns’ lofty preseason expectations of an NBA title look like a far-fetched dream.
