LeBron's admiration for Curry—Is this the ultimate sign of respect in the NBA?

Well, basketball fans finally got what they asked for. LeBron James and Stephen Curry share the same court as teammates! With Team USA warming up for the Paris Olympics, they played their first showcase game today against Canada. And it didn’t take long for Bron and Steph to mesmerize the fans with their incredible chemistry as the superstar duo connected for a smooth lob in the 2nd half. After the game, James looked back on the highlight move and deemed it as a redemption play for a mistake he made earlier in the game.

Enjoying their 9-point lead in the third quarter, LeBron and Steph ran a fast break following a turnover by the Canadians. With Dillon Brooks and RJ Barrett running back on defense, King James quickly passed the ball to Steph, who left it up in the air for the Lakers superstar to finish the monster alley-oop. As expected, fans inside the T-Mobile Arena erupted, seeing the two legends dominate.

Addressing the highlight play that had the fans buzzing, LeBron revealed how he felt sharing that moment with Steph, “Ah, you know just two guys. We love to play the game of basketball and try to share to each other. I missed him in the first half on a wide-open three that I threw out of bounds. But he was able to connect with me on the lob.”

“It’s fun. We play the game at a high level but more importantly, we play the game that we love the right way and that’s the result of it,” LeBron said in the post-game presser. This was just after Steph was so thrilled about his pass to the King that he immediately put his hands up in celebration. More importantly, their reaction showed how much the two legends are enjoying playing with each other.

A lifelong moment to cherish for LeBron James and Stephen Curry!

While we have seen LeBron and Steph as teammates in the past, it was during the All-Star Weekend, when the stakes were not that high. However, this is the first time the two are playing together in a highly competitive environment with the pressure to win Gold for their nation on the biggest stage. Both LeBron and Steph could not be more grateful for this opportunity. Having faced Bron 4 times in the Finals and winning three of them, Steph was pleased to finally see what it’s like to be on the same team with the legend.

“To have LeBron as a teammate is surreal. Because you have so many battles back and forth, you admire his game, you know what he’s about, and to see the work up close and personal every day, to see how he prepares, how he talks in practice, I’ve never had that vantage point of him.”

While Steph gets a chance to admire LeBron’s work ethic, King James also realized that being in the latter stages of his career, he might not get another chance to share the court with legends like Steph and Durant again, “I can’t speak for those two guys, but for me, it’s going to be ecstatic excitement, a humbling wow factor. The last 15, 17, 18 years, myself, Steph, KD, have been the talk of the NBA.”

Obviously, these 3 superstars are so close-knit to each other’s legacy that it’s hard to talk about one without mentioning the other. And it’s an emotional moment for them and even the millions of fans around the world who have grown up watching their teams compete night in and night out to finally see them as teammates working toward the same goal.
