Mike Brown entered his first season with the Kings and accomplished what no one had been able to do in 16 seasons. He led them to the playoffs, breaking their long-standing curse. Brown’s remarkable achievement left no doubt amongst all the voters that he deserved the NBA Coach of the Year title. However, things never looked brighter since then. And five back-to-back losses this season were all it took for the impatient Sacramento front office to part ways with him. This unexpected decision shocked the NBA community, especially affecting a head coach Brown had previously assisted, Steve Kerr.

When Warriors HC sat down at the press conference last night, he was asked about Mike Brown’s situation. Kerr responded, “I’m very disappointed to hear the news. Mike is a great friend, a great coach.” He also mentioned that he had spoken to the 54-year-old coach after the incident.

Being a head coach for a decade Kerr is no stranger to the harsh realities of the business. Reflecting on Brown’s time with the Kings, he added, “When you think about where that franchise was before Mike got there, where they’ve been the last couple years, the job he and his staff have done, it’s just, really shocking.” Prior to joining the Kings, Brown spent six seasons with the Warriors as their associate HC.

Kerr continued to voice his disbelief at the decision by stating, “I know they’ve been in a tough spell, but this is the NBA. We all go through tough spells.” He, of course, knows that all too well, as the Warriors themselves are struggling this season. When Kerr’s reaction went viral, fans pointed out that he could be next.

Dubs nation echoes calls for Steve Kerr’s firing following Mike Brown’s dismissal

One fan commented, “Kerr like dang I might be next.” It’s hard to believe that the Warriors were once at the top of the Western Conference standings this season. But their inconsistencies have now dropped them to 11th spot with a 15-15 record. So, the fan speculated that after Mike Brown’s dismissal, Kerr might feel the pressure and wonder if the Warriors could be next to make a coaching change.

Meanwhile, another fan boldly declared, “I can not wait till Steve Kerr gets fired.” The franchise was aiming for a fifth championship under Kerr this season. But now they seem far from being a serious contender. Clearly, Kerr’s strategies aren’t working out for the Dubs.

“Bring him back to the Warriors and fire Kerr,” suggested someone. They want Brown to replace Kerr. After discussing Mike Brown and the Kings’ situation, Kerr also reflected on his rough stretch with the Warriors. “I feel very fortunate to work in an organization that really values continuity,” the 59-year-old said. Kerr then quickly acknowledged that “organizational support and continuity” don’t last forever but the Warriors are unlikely to replicate what the Kings did.

“And kerr still has his job, makes no sense,” one of the comments read. In their last 10 games, the Warriors have won just three, leaving their fan base disappointed and frustrated. Fans are now questioning why Steve Kerr still holds his position when Mike Brown was fired after less than a season and a half without noticeable improvement.

Echoing the same sentiment, another fan wrote, “But Steve Kerr has blown so many games over the last 3 years but he still is in charge lol.” The San Francisco side last won the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2022 and since then, haven’t been anywhere near reclaiming that championship glory over the past two seasons. And this season is no different.

Time is surely a factor in the league, and Kerr has very little of it. If he doesn’t want his fate to mirror Brown’s, then he needs to buck up, reassess his approach to get the Warriors back on track.
