“I May Look Fragile but I’m Definitely Not”: Everything You Need to Know About Joel Embiid’s Wife, Who Can “Kick Your A**”

On 22nd July 2023, Joel Embiid married his longtime girlfriend, Anne De Paula, in a lavish ceremony in Southampton, New York. Embiid and Anne met during a dinner in 2018 through a mutual friend and since then have welcomed their first child together, a son named Arthur Elijah.

The couple has openly expressed their admiration for each other on social media. As Joel Embiid continues to conquer the hardwood with his MVP-like performance, let us take a look at his better half, who is an established woman in her own right.

Who is Anne De Paula?

Anne De Paula was born on 31st March 1995, in the Brazilian metropolis of Rio De Janeiro. She is a model by profession and has modeled for magazines like Sports Illustrated. The Brazilian model made her SI Swimsuit in 2018 and since then she has been on the annual issue of the magazine four times. Despite becoming a well-established model, this was not her first choice of profession during her childhood. However, her mother convinced Anne to give modeling a chance. De Paula dipped her toes into modeling at the tender age of 12 and was only 14 when a modeling agency signed her.

De Paula is also multi-linguistic, as she can fluently speak three different languages, namely French, Portuguese, and English. Apart from her multi-linguistic skills, De Paula is also a trained fighter. She has trained in Muay Thai since the age of 17 and Anne continues to practice the discipline three times a week till this very day. In an interview with Fox News, De Paula said, “I can kick your a**, because I do Muay Thai. I may look fragile, but I’m definitely not.”

Besides practicing Muay Thai, Anne is an avid fan of soccer, which isn’t that surprising considering she is Brazilian. In fact, both Embiid and Anne played soccer during their formative years. During an interview with Fox News, Anne reminisced about playing soccer in her childhood. She said, “I loved sports, but I also liked this girly version of myself. I wasn’t popular in school. I wasn’t successful with the boys. They never really looked at me like a girl because I was always playing with them.” It only seems like fate as her love for sports led her to support the career of one of the NBA’s best players.

How did Anne meet Embiid?

The two met during a dinner in New York City with a mutual friend. However, De Paula didn’t recall that the two talked that much during the dinner. In fact, she didn’t even know that Embiid was a world-renowned basketball star until he got up after dinner. The relationship between the two started as a “beautiful friendship”, according to Anne.

However, it didn’t take time for the relationship to turn into something serious, as on 17th September 2020, they welcomed their son Arthur Elijah. Their son was named after Embiid’s younger brother, who died in a car crash in 2014. The couple continues to grow their loving family and can even be seen courtside supporting Joel Embiid.
