Ja Morant made a glorious comeback on Tuesday against the Pelicans; it was too good to be true that it almost seemed scripted. The former Rookie of the year returned, and he came to dominate. In his season debut game, Ja banked 34 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. His return put an end to the Grizzlies‘ five-game losing streak, by clinching a 115-113 win against the Pelicans.
Fans were over the moon and the entire arena was full of energy. Ja was finally back after a 25-game suspension thanks to an Instagram live video where he was seen with an unlicensed firearm. However, this return elicited an emotional reaction from his father, Tee Morant.

Everything paid off
Tee showed up to his son’s game, passionately rooting for Ja throughout the game; it was a huge moment for both. After the game, father and son shared a heartfelt embrace as if to say the worst is over. Tee took it upon himself to share the blame for his son’s mistakes; when asked about the significance of Ja’s return to the floor, Tee said, “Everything. All the dedication. All the dedication that we put into everything. That kid ain’t did nothing to nobody.”

Moreover, he can’t seem to get over the things his son went through, even taking accountability for what went down earlier this year, “I feel bad as a father because I want to take all the (blame) for anything he does wrong — give it to me. But don’t do him like that if he doesn’t commit a crime. Everybody writes what they write, but now when y’all see, the proof is in the pudding.” Well, now that he is back in action, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that the Grizzlies’ win against New Orleans would’ve just been a dream, if not for Ja.
Ja pulled through in the last seconds
The Grizzlies’ win over the Pelicans was almost poetic; the game was tied at 113 points on both sides. The moments leading up to the last minutes were intense and the entire arena was on edge. All eyes were on Ja as he dribbled the ball into the paint. Slipping past two defenders, he dropped the buzzer-beating basket that cemented their win.

This was a much-needed win for the Grizzlies who were losing all hope in the absence of Ja. It puts them back on track for the playoff run and sets a positive tone for the team. Despite the many antics that Ja pulls, there is no denying the talent and skill he brings to the floor. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a new era for Memphis this season.
