Russell Westbrook has been a target of criticism and unwarranted hate for a major part of his later career. It especially really went south for the former MVP when he was drafted by the Lakers in 2021, and fans were not having it. Through it all, his rock-solid sanctuary has always been his wife Nina Earl, who was there for him through thick and thin.
A former UCLA basketball player, licensed marriage and family therapist, and entrepreneur, Nina also hosts her podcast, The Relationship Chronicles with Nina Westbrook. In a recent episode of her show, the guest was none other than her husband. Having a candid conversation with her SO, Nina opens up about one of Russ’ habits that has prevented her from buying presents for their three children.
Russell Westbrook gets too many gifts for the family

To be fair, this ‘habit’ of Russ isn’t a bad one; turns out, he is a giver in all the sense of the word. Nina accuses him of overbuying presents for the family during special occasions like Thanksgiving or Christmas, “I don’t even get gifts (for anyone), like because you get so many gifts….. I don’t even buy gifts for our own kids because you were the gift man.”
Nina does admit that compared to Russ, she is not much of a “gift-giver,” and since he already takes care of the presents for both sides of the family, all she does is write down her name on the cards. “I just put my name on it please and everyone’s happy,” she says. Because of Russ’ love of buying gifts, Nina says she has put a limit on his gift-buying.
Only one or two gifts per person was the new rule

According to Nina, Russ would get at least six to seven Christmas gifts for everyone on both sides of the family, and she wasn’t on board with this habit, calling it “unacceptable“. “We had to put limits on how many Christmas presents we would get other people,” Nina says. Now they are down to one or two gift limits, and Russ admits it took some time for him to come to terms with that.
Speaking of gift-giving, the couple says that they had a tough time during their first Christmas together with no kids. Thanks to their upbringings, both of them, as individuals were accustomed to giving out gifts. Having no kids and visitors, they had to call up family and ask them to make sure they visited. Nina said, “No one had to come to us no one cared to come to us that deeply because we didn’t have cute little kids running around for them to see.”
