Tyrese Maxey was a five-star recruit as a sophomore in high school. Since his debut, he has been a joy to watch on the court. The 2020 pandemic overshadowed his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, the next year marked a turning point. With Ben Simmons refusing to play, Maxey seized the chance to start as the point guard. Since then, he has never looked back. With the next season just around the corner, the 23-year-old is aiming for nothing but improvement.

Maxey has sported an iconic hairstyle in his 4 seasons at the NBA. The long hair with dreadlocks has become synonymous with Tyrese. The NBA All-Star has shined even when the Sixers had a lackluster season in 2023/24. He won the Most Improved Player Award, which is commendable. However, fans will now miss his dreadlocks. Why? This is because the youngster has chopped them off! Maxey shared his new hairstyle update via Instagram a few months ago, and well, it looks like he’s going to stick with the haircut for now.

But there might be a reason behind the latest styling. Tyrese Maxey finally revealed why he’s going to keep his hair short (but fancy). Speaking with media after the first training camp, the 23-year-old PG expressed that he’s been working on being a better playmaker:I think the biggest thing for me is I changed my hair and I can see now.” Well, did Tyrese have trouble seeing ahead of him because of his long hair? I couldn’t see before, so if I got in the paint, I was shooting it. But now my hair is out of my face so I can see.”

So now with a clear vision and a five-year, $203.85 million contract with the Philly side, set to pay him $35.1 million next season, we can expect that Tyrese Maxey will put on his most lethal show in every game. Going side by side with Joel Embiid and the 76ers’ recruit Paul George, the point guard will surely shine brighter this time. Meanwhile, he has got a new role in the squad.

Tyrese Maxey acknowledges former Sixer Tobias Harris for helping him grow as a leader!

Tyrese Maxey is stepping into a bigger leadership role for the Philadelphia 76ers as he enters his 5th year. In training camp, he’s been a vocal presence, ensuring players are in the right spots and helping set a high standard for the team. He acknowledged his growing role, saying, “Besides Joel (Embiid), I think I’ve been here the longest,” Maxey said at practice on Tuesday in The Bahamas.

“I kinda know how things are run around here and I lead by example. I get up early and work out early in the morning before practice. I’m always here on time if not early, and I like to win, man. I want to win.” The hooper also emphasized the importance of him making sure that he’s 100% ready to play an 82-game season and postseason, enduring back-to-backs and heavy minutes.

Tyrese Maxey has also been mentoring rookie Jared McCain, offering guidance similar to what Tobias Harris gave him. “I’ve been talking to him since he got drafted,” Maxey said of McCain. Reflecting on Harris’ influence, he shared, “He poured into me every single day… and he told me to keep that tradition going.” Now, with a big contract, Maxey is determined to step up and lead the Sixers, saying, “I’m just tryna be more demanding, more determined, and make us more dominant.”
