The Warriors’ loss to the Nuggets could have turned out differently if not for an unfair call by the referee. What should have been two points for Stephen Curry and Co. was overruled as a non-goaltending call. In the fourth quarter, Curry attempted a layup that looked like it was goaltended by Gordon. But it was not called, and the Warriors lost by three points to the Nuggets.

And they still haven’t broken the losing streak to Denver. But it is still early in the season for a missed call to have a huge impact on their season. That must be the reason why Coach Steve Kerr had a calm response post-game.

Coach Kerr remains calm when asked about the missed call

In the post-media conference, Kerr was seen as much calmer than on the court. Talking about the unfair call, he says, “It hurts… I’m used to it.”

“Honestly, it’s a difficult call to make… Last year, four or five of those. It’s gonna happen this year too. It’s part of it,” he added. The referees have a tough time as it is and for them to have missed a goaltending call in a high-profile game makes it even harder on them. The Warriors coach realizes this and his reaction says it all.

It is a tough pill to swallow for the Warriors though that Curry’s shot could have potentially tied the score with the Nuggets. To make matters worse, the referee called out the Warriors for goaltending right after not calling it on the Nuggets. And it was in almost an exactly similar situation. You can imagine why Steve Kerr was livid at the unfair ruling at the time the call was made. Albeit he was calm later while responding to the questions from the media.

Steph was none too happy about it, either. What could have easily been a few points for the Warriors to put them in the lead simply slipped through their fingers. “It was definitely goaltended. They missed it. Keep playing,” he said.

The Warriors are on a steady graph so far. Though they had hoped to beat the losing streak against Denver tonight, it did not happen. The Dubs were without Green and Payton II for this game. But even then, everyone gave as good as they got. The Warriors big man Kevon Looney kept close tabs on Denver’s big man, Nikola Jokic.

Even with Looney following close behind, Jokic put up an impressive performance with 35 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists in 37  minutes of the game. Stephen Curry tried his best to give his team a leg-up, but his floater was off the mark and Thompson’s famous buzzer-beater failed here.

The Warriors’ bench unit was their final hope. They didn’t fail, managing to outscore the Nuggets’ backup by 42-12. All in all, it was a true battle between championship contenders. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner, and tonight, it was the Denver Nuggets.
