The Golden State Warriors have been in great form since the preseason. No surprise there. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green on the team, it is a given. But now they have another player to add to the list, none other than the veteran point guard, Chris Paul. Having played against the Warriors for a long time, it was surely a different experience to play for them.

In hopes of getting his first NBA title, Chris Paul is pulling out all the stops. And he has no qualms in doing so. Paul has said as much many times over after signing with the Golden State. His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

Talking about getting Paul on his team, Steph has been quite excited with how the events have progressed. A natural leader and an experienced guard, Chris Paul, brings a lot to the table. Especially lessons, skills, and advice that can help the Warriors rookies. But what’s even more important is how much of a lighter workload Steph has to carry.

The Golden State Warriors are indeed a dynasty in the NBA world. But a major portion of the credit goes to Curry’s magical interventions that take them over the edge. Taking a look at last season’s stats would provide an idea of how much the team relies on the Chef to make a difference. When he was on the court, the Dubs were offensively efficient at 118.9. And when he was off the court, it went down to 99.9. This is precisely what needs to be changed.

With “Point God,” Chris Paul on the team now, the changes are manifesting. Talking about how Paul’s presence in leading the bench unit is impressive, he credits the veteran for taking the lead. “Our bench unit is way better than our starting unit right now, in terms of plus-minus, and Chris is a big reason why,” Curry says. “The lead is maintaining or building, or even they’ve come back a couple times and got us back in it.”

It does seem like Chris Paul is also in the same boat as Curry on this.

“I’m all about winning,”: Paul’s mantra

When the Warriors got Chris Paul after trading the up-and-coming Jordan Poole, there was a lot of disappointment and shock among the Dubs fans. They just couldn’t wrap their head around how this trade was in any way a boon. Pretty sure they have got the answer to that since then.

Just look at the rate of turnovers among the Warriors since CP3 arrived. Or the lack of it. According to ESPN, when Steph is off the court, the team’s turnover percentage is among the top 5 in the league. With Paul now taking the lead on the bench unit, the Dubs have been able to outscore their opponents above 13 points per 100 possessions. He brings a sense of calmness to an otherwise inexperienced Warriors bench, something that they were desperately lacking.

It probably has to do with the supporting cast around a player. One can be scoring point after point and still not make it to the promised land if your support system is not in tune with you. Chris Paul won’t have to worry about not being in sync with the Dubs. His performance against the Lakers is a testament to itself. And as Paul said, “I’m all about winning. Whatever I can do to help our team win … I think I’ve at least tried to show or prove that my entire career.”

He most certainly has. So, here’s to wishing the Point God the best of luck in his relentless pursuit of a title. If there’s any team that can get him one, it is the Warriors. Do you think Paul will have his dream realized this season?
