In the release announcing the penalties, the NBA said Green’s suspension was “for escalating an on-court altercation and forcibly grabbing Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert around the neck”. They also added that the length of the suspension is based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.
What caused Draymond to act out?
The fight broke out in the first quarter within two minutes of the game starting. Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels first started fighting for a rebound. But things escalated between the two as they crossed half-court while going the other way. To break up a potential fight, Rudy Gobert involved himself and tried to rip Thompson away from Jaden.

This, however, angered Klay’s teammate Draymond Green. The forward took things further by grabbing Gobert and choking him. Later, Thompson and McDaniels were each assessed a technical foul and ejected. Green, on the other hand, was assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 and was also ejected.
In the past few weeks, there have been accusations that the NBA was going soft on players. However, people agreed that this was taking things a little too far. Green intended to save his teammate, but it could have been done in a million other ways. Actions like this set a bad precedent for the young viewers and players of the game.
