Chris Quinn and James Borrego were two of the three top candidates for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching gig along with JJ Redick. Amongst the three, 46YO Borrego and Bron’s podcast pal, Redick emerged as the best. Despite these updates, the rumors about JJ landing the job continue to have an upper hand. And it’s totally understandable.

In fact, Shams Charania of The Athletic recently posted that “the Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on JJ Redick as the front-runner to be the franchise’s next head coach.” It seems that the former Magic star has impressed the decision-makers throughout the interview process. The Purple & Gold are being very careful with the hiring of their head coach.

The franchise had made it clear that they were open to any deal that would keep LeBron James on the team. Even if it meant signing him for the maximum three-year $164 million extension. After the Lakers were kicked off the playoffs by Denver, Darvin Ham was promptly fired. While many would say that it was a long time coming, others made it no secret that “Coach Killer” James was the reason for Ham losing his job.

Add in the mid-season debut of the 4x champion’s podcast with the guy who would end up being a frontrunner for Los Angeles’ head coach position. The internet was in chaos. If anybody thought it was settled, think again. The most recent video that has Twitter in its steely grips is one of Darvin Ham. The 50-year-old was shown drawing up plays during a timeout, explaining points quite expressively, as the team huddled around him.

Unfortunately for the ex-Lakers coach, it wasn’t a tribute. “Our future head coach has a podcast speaking on plays, just remember this is what our old coach was doing during a timeout,” a parody X page tweeted.

We don’t have to tell you the kind of reactions and creative comments that followed this. However, here are a few to make your day!

Amid JJ Redick HC rumors, fans on X have a blast with a resurfaced Ham video

Admittedly, it is quite entertaining to watch Ham, making those vigorous gestures, shaking his shiny bald head, and ensuring he has the attention of everyone. But that’s where it ends. And that is what the comment section is blowing up with. One fan was pretty much stupefied at the whole routine that he commented, “Lmaoo how did we make the wcf last year dawg,” followed by a crying-a-river emoji.

Another individual couldn’t take their eyes off LeBron James. “LeBron cringing and Pat Bev looking in disbelief,” followed by a laughing tears emoji. It wouldn’t be the first that the ‘L Train’ would have done so. It’s pretty well-known in the NBA circles that James doesn’t think too highly of the former Lakers coach. And he made it quite apparent, particularly this season.

Some people were of the opinion that Ham was just doodling, putting a picture of an “unimpressed Shaq” alongside.

This next guy seems to have a hard time believing it is indeed Ham in the video. Or it is real. “AI has to be involved cause this can’t be real.” Pretty sure many would agree with him. This is one of those moments that gets buried under bigger issues. And resurface in, let’s say, right about now.

Finally, this fan came with an olive branch. “For sure the brighter side, i feel we should give him a chance before we start counting him out. There’s nothing we can do but move on.” That is indeed a practical approach. After all, as Stephen A. Smith had pointed out in his podcast, there were broadcasters and analysts with zero coaching experience landing a head coaching job. Prominent names like Steve Nash, Doc Rivers, and Mark Jackson did not have any experience coaching grown men at the NBA. Yet, they have all been widely recognized and acknowledged coaches.

So, maybe, just maybe, if JJ Redick does indeed become the new coach of the Purple & Gold, things might take a turn for good.
