The emotions ran high as the leaders of two conferences collided in the latest WNBA match. The New York Liberty hosted Vegas Aces at home in a blowout 99-61 game to go four games unbeaten with a 22-6 overall record. Despite the statement victory, the Liberty made the headlines for the wrong reasons due to an incident surrounding LV Aces’ A?ja Wilson.
A?ja Wilson had to leave the court momentarily twice because of a dirty play from the Liberty. This rendered the Aces ineffective and the team fell short time and time again.

Late in the first quarter with less than a minute left to play, A?ja Wilson caught an elbow from Jonquel Jones during a post move. Wilson had to soon leave the court to get checked for a concussion. The foul was later reviewed and moved to flagrant foul, suggesting the severity of the foul.
Refusing to back down from the challenge, Wilson returned to take the free throws. But she had to then again return to the locker room. She tried to help her team out in the second half but had a quiet game overall from her standard. With only 9 points and 2/14 from the field, she failed to meet her standards.
Expectedly, the fans blamed NY Liberty’s disgraceful play for that. Many used social media as their way of expressing themselves and their thoughts. YouTube comments of the match videos reflected precisely that.
“Jones did that sh*t on purpose”
WNBA fans were quick to react. The incident ignited fierce reactions, with one fan commenting, “Anyone who uses their elbows like that shouldn’t be playing basketball”.?They were unhappy with how Jones walked away as one person said, “Intentional or not it was not sportsmanlike to walk away…”.

The fans wanted to see a high-voltage end-to-end action. So, they felt robbed of it for this moment. People were frustrated with Jones as comments such as “I’m disappointed in her”, “JJ should?ve been ejected” and “Jones did that sh*t on purpose” were repetitive indicating the disappointment of the fans.
The Aces had a slight upper hand by the end of the first quarter but that moment turned the tide, as one fan perfectly highlighted the same stating, “This play changed the momentum of the game and everyone knew it”. Wilson’s health concerned the fans as comments such as “Hope you are okay Aja”?flooded the comment section.
