“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted… but hear me when I say that the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting”. Vice President Kamala Harris was determined in her concession speech made almost 12 hours after the 2024 Presidential Race was called in favor of Donald Trump. Harris boasted a list of celebrity endorsements that included artists from Taylor Swift and Beyonce to renowned names of the NBA fraternity like Steve Kerr and Steph Curry from the Bay Area team. Despite this, the Democratic candidate failed to pull off a win.
This allowed Trump to win all battleground states and the popular vote! Now, as people line up to give their support, the Warriors’ head coach has joined in too, but not without taking a sarcastic dig. Earlier today, Anthony Slater highlighted Steve Kerr’s recent remarks on X. The head coach stated, “I want him to do well the next 4 years. I want our country to do well.”
At the same time, however, Steve Kerr couldn’t help but reference the unproven claims that the 45 (and now 47) president and his team were reportedly handing out four years ago, adding, “I’m just thankful there wasn’t any voting fraud this time… Thankfully, this time, everything was clean. It’s great that every election has been really valid except for that last one four years ago. Twinkle in my eye as I say that, in case you didn’t see it.”

In the end, Steve Kerr did list his limitations, stating that the world is a complex place. While it may not be his desired candidate who will go on to work out for the American people, his love for his country compels him to still adhere to the callings of democracy. “I’m well aware I live in a bubble and I’m one of the luckiest people on earth. I want what’s best for us and I hope Trump can deliver that,” said the 59-year-old. Referencing the matchup against the Boston Celtics, he added, telling the Warriors squad: “I just told them in our meeting this morning, let’s make America great again and beat the Celtics tonight.”

Kerr’s “everything has been valid except that election” remark was an obvious reference to the 2020 race between Biden and Trump. Even after Obama’s VP became President-Elect four years ago, Trump refused to concede and spread unproven claims of ‘voter fraud.’ All of this culminated in the January 6 2021 attack at the US Capitol, where Trump supporters stormed the government building while Biden’s win was being certified. Even today, Trump reportedly refuses to believe that he lost 4 years ago, with reporters continuing to call him out. Despite this, the Republican billionaire made a political comeback.

It is no secret that Steve Kerr was a supporter of Kamala Harris. Along with Stephen Curry, he was the only other member of the Warriors who gave a speech at the DNC. He also urged citizens to vote. Therefore, continuing his ‘sarcastic’ persona from yesterday when he was talking about the Celtics, the head coach couldn’t help but be hopeful about the future. Kerr and others may not be satisfied with the results. However, they still chose to adhere to it.

Matt Barnes had earlier hosted Kamala Harris on his ‘All the Smoke’ podcast. He had even revealed his intention to host Donald Trump so that he could ask him the “real questions.” Given that Trump is not going away from the spotlight anytime soon, the door is open for him. With Kamala Harris’ defeat still fresh, remarks of a similar nature are sure to come for the citizens of the US in the next few days. After all, despite who wins, we need to respect democracy.
