The Sacramento Kings had made a bold move, parting ways with head coach Mike Brown. It seemed a bit random at the time. It was a big shake-up, especially considering how much he helped this team. Now, Doug Christie is stepping up as interim coach. Honestly, Brown wasn’t perfect, but he played a huge role in De’Aaron Fox’s rise. Fox went from a talented guard to an All-NBA star, dropping over 25 points a night. But when this season got off to a rough start, tensions built up fast. Before you knew it, Brown was gone…
And now? The focus shifts to Fox. Will he stick around, or is this the start of something bigger for him, too?
The Kings reportedly opened trade talks for De’Aaron Fox earlier this week, and word on the street is that he’s eyeing the San Antonio Spurs as his preferred landing spot. Then came the latest twist—a claim that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive flew to Oklahoma City for a sit-down dinner with Fox, supposedly trying to convince him to stay. Dusty Garza of News 4 San Antonio dropped that report on Thursday, citing unnamed sources. Sounds dramatic, right?

Well, Fox himself quickly shut it down. When asked about it after the team’s shootaround on Saturday, the hoopster didn’t mince words. “That wasn’t true,” he told The Sacramento Bee. “I haven’t talked to Vivek.” So much for that rumor.
Sacramento opened trade discussions earlier this week, and most signs point to San Antonio as Fox’s ideal landing spot. After spending almost 8 seasons with the Kings, Fox admitted the nonstop speculation hasn’t been easy to ignore.
But he’s not letting it mess with his mindset. Even the French phenom, Victor Wembanyama, was asked about the $163 million contracted star coming to the Spurs. When asked about the speculation, Wemby said, “I heard about it today, but I hadn’t seen the rumors. What I think of him as a player, is of course that he’s a very good player.”
The young Frenchman further added, “I trust the Front Office. Even though I know that this is an adventure in which we’re going to grow together with the franchise, I’m staying in my role as a player.”
As a young star, he understands that team decisions are out of his hands and that his focus should remain on developing his game while the Front Office handles roster moves. But just imagine the Wembanyama-Fox combo. It’d be so fun to watch!
The Victor Wembanyama-De’Aaron Fox duo could be deadly
The Spurs have become a serious contender, with rumors suggesting that Fox wants to make San Antonio his next stop. But pulling off a deal isn’t as simple as it sounds. The Kings need to get value in return, and the Spurs have the assets to make things interesting—whether that means draft picks, key players, or even a multi-team trade.
For San Antonio, this isn’t just about adding another talented guard. They’re trying to build something bigger, with Wembanyama as the centerpiece. Fox’s speed and playmaking could be the perfect fit, giving the Spurs a legit shot at fast-tracking their rebuild.
But Sacramento has a tough choice to make. Letting Fox walk in free agency for nothing would be a disaster, so if they’re going to move him, they need to maximize the return.
Names like Stephon Castle have already been thrown into trade discussions, and as the deadline looms, talks are only going to heat up.

If not Castle, then names like Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, and possibly even Chris Paul or Harrison Barnes, could be on the train leaving San Antonio. Bear in mind, for salary-matching purposes, the Christie-led side does have the bandwidth to take a slight hit and absorb salary.
At this point, it’s a waiting game. Sources also predict a “complicated 4-team trade”, via Don Harris of News 4 San Antonio.
Will the Kings pull the trigger and send their franchise guard packing? Or will they hold on and risk losing him down the line? One way or another, Fox’s future is about to take a major turn—and fans are locked in, waiting to see where he lands.
