The Atlanta Hawks have finally decided to let go of the baggage they have been sliding along so far with the heavy luxury tax. However, the turnaround from the Hawks front office has already started as Dejounte Murray has gone to the New Orleans Pelicans. In exchange, the team got a lot of potential, like Larry Nance Jr., E.J. Liddell, and two first-round picks. Interestingly, now Trae Young has become the new hope for the Hawks for now. Yet there are chances that this hope might last soon.

While Chris Broussard and Shaun King were discussing Dejounte Murray’s trade on Fox Sports Radio’s ‘The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Shaun King,’ they explored Trae Young as another possibility for ouster. While commenting on Murray’s trade, Chris mentioned Young and went on to say, “He’s part of the issue. I mean I have an issue with stars demanding trade when they’re part of the issue.” Apparently, the NBA analyst was referring to the lack of defense from Young as a point guard despite being a good scorer. Instead, Chris shared the opinion that Trae should get to a team that teaches him to play a winning basketball.

I would love to be in San Antonio. I know they’ve got Stephon Castle, but I think Trae in a place like San Antonio where they would teach him how to play the right way. He would have a superstar who’s better than him in Wemby. I think that would be great, “ Broussard implied why Trae Young should join Victor Wembanyama and others at the San Antonio Spurs. Though the NBA analyst admitted Trae has great scoring talent, he needs to change his surroundings. Most importantly, the conditions in which he is blooming in the league. It’s also a win-win situation for the Hawks as well because they’ll get to avoid the luxury tax and restructure their roster.

How can Trae Young add to Victor Wembanyama and Co. if traded in the future?

The San Antonio Spurs needed a point guard who could cover for Victor Wembanyama on the court. That’s why they chose Stephon Castle with their No. 8 pick in the NBA draft. However, Trae Young would have fitted perfectly in that role, considering his form and dominance at scoring. The 3x All-Star averaged 25.7 points, 10.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds over the 54 games that he played this season. Contrarily, there is suspicion about the UConn guard’s limited shooting abilities that Spurs have picked.

Trae has 35.5% three-point shooting in his career, while Castle could only 27 percent of his 3-point attempts in college. The Hawks still might make a move with Trae Young since there is a lot left to move in the offseason. If they somehow get the 25-year-old to the Spurs, the floor spacing problems and offensive guard approach will resolve itself at the Spurs.

It is quite evident that Trae Young’s 6’1″ stature is not significant as a defender. It keeps him away from the main role of a point guard to protect the rim. But in the case of the Spurs, it will be his superpower to create an opening for Wemby.
