Can Kevin Durant lead the Suns to a championship, or are his best days behind him?

The Phoenix Suns finally have a promising update amid a struggling off-season. The Valley side has tangled itself into a tough spot with an overarching financial struggle, crossing the second apron tax slab. This left the Suns to painfully stick with the same roster with CBA restrictions or trade out a big superstar and ease the financials. While everyone thought Kevin Durant would make his way out of the side, following a cryptic remark, the new Suns coach, Mike Budenholzer, dropped an encouraging update.

Notably, the NBA world already had its doubts regarding KD’s future in Phoenix after the 2024 postseason struggle. And the team’s tied-down off-season situation further raised eyebrows. To put an end to it, Kay from Up & Adams Show asked Durant if he was happy in the Valley. KD, with a goofy attitude, said, “Yeah, I’m happy to be alive, you know? See, I can’t complain anybody about nothing.”

He eventually concluded, saying, “I feel comfortable with Phoenix now.” While the superstar’s remark was cryptic and caused further doubts, Budenholzer cleared the air. Speaking to the press about KD’s calf strain, he said, “Our medical staff has done a great job of supporting him. USA Basketball has been great supporting him.”

“Kevin’s a veteran. He knows himself well. We feel confident he’s in a good place, he’s being well taken care of. Hopeful that he will be back out there and ready to play for USA,” his statement not only gave an update on KD’s injury but also confirmed his Suns’ future.

Kevin Durant already missed the exhibition game against Team Canada, citing his calf strain. However, Steve Kerr has shown confidence that the veteran will get healthy and play in the remaining 4 games, followed by the Paris Olympics. Currently, the US team has traveled to Abu Dhabi to face Australia and Serbia in a friendly contest.

Kevin Durant’s latest injury report from the Team USA camp

Have an interesting take?

Kevin Durant ultimately holds the central part of Team USA. Apart from winning 3 Olympic golds, the most by anyone on the current roster, he is also the scoring leader of the team (435) in the Olympics. The Slim Reaper surpassed Carmelo Anthony‘s record (336) during his last Olympics appearance in Tokyo, Japan. The superstar came into the camp with a calf strain and was expected to miss the initial phase of exhibition games. However, the latest update revealed that he would most likely miss the Australia game, too.

KD has skipped a practice session as he’s still dealing with the injury, as per the latest update via Duane Rankin. With only two weeks left for the Olympics, the team expects the superstar to lace up before it’s too late. Speaking of injury, KD said, “I feel better. I was working out probably about 10 days before training camp [when I got hurt]. So, just working through it and taking it day by day.”

If KD fails to make it to the tournament, LeBron James, who missed the 2020 Tokyo Olympics because of an injury, will have the opportunity to steal the scoring leader title and win his third Gold medal, alongside Team USA’s fifth one in a row.

Nevertheless, the Phoenix Suns’ fanbase finally has a strong update regarding Kevin Durant staying with them. However, amidst all their financial struggles, does the side have a chance at the Championship without making any major changes to the roster?
