It’s not easy for every NBA player to collaborate with a sports brand to bring out a shoe line. Only the popular players attempt it. In the line-up, fairly young 22-year-old Anthony Edwards debuted his signature sneaker line on Saturday night. During the game against the Indiana Pacers, he stepped out on the court with his “With Love” colorway.

He didn’t sport the sneaker, he also rocked the game, dropping 37 points along with Karl-Anthony Towns‘ 40 points to steal a 109-127 against the shorthanded Pacers. During the game, Cam Mason, the head of Sports Marketing for Adidas Basketball paused the game for a brief moment, as he took over the broadcast to speak about the shoe.

Mason opened up about the backstory of the sneaker. He said, “The color he’s wearing, it’s called With Love. It’s all about his family… his grandma, where he grew up, the Atlanta… It really just encapsulates the explosive athlete that he really is.” 

While the NBA world compared Ant-Man with MJ, the youngster chose to team up with the arch-rivals of Nike. Meanwhile, Adidas opted for a unique and bold way to promote the new sneaker ahead of its launch.

Adidas’ bold marketing move

Sports Illustrated considered the marketing approach of Adidas as one of the boldest marketing campaigns in sneaker history.” During the lead-up to the shoes’ launch, the ads boldly called out other signature shoes of various brands, reported SI. 

Keeping the holidays in mind, Adidas began their ad campaign early for the shoe launch with Edwards describing it, “your favorite hooper’s favorite hoop shoe.” in one of the ads.

Above all, the sneaker couldn’t have got a better promotion than the star himself sporting it on a game and dropping 37 points with it.
