The Dallas Mavericks aren’t doing too well this season. Well, for starters, the obvious thing—they traded away Luka Doncic. And they got virtually nothing in return since Anthony Davis remains injured, so far. But things are about to get much, much worse. Kyrie Irving may have just played his final game of the season!

With 2:35 left on the clock in the first quarter of the Sacramento Kings game, Irving drove into the paint as he attempted a floater. But things didn’t go according to plan for the former NBA champion. His landing on the court was hard and awkward. He grimaced in agony, lying on his stomach, clutching his left leg in pain.

Soon, the medical staff rushed over to tend to Irving. But don’t think Kai went to the locker room directly. That’s not the cloth from which he’s cut. Instead, Kyrie chose to shoot the free throws he’d won, knocking down both attempts.

This injury could not have come at a worse time for the Mavericks. After all, the $215 million controversy or the Luka trade remains fresh in the minds of every Mavs fan. And Doncic dropping his first triple-double as a Laker against them only reopened these wounds. That game brought unmatched drama. But now, this injury to Kyrie is like salt in the wounds since Luka’s “hermano” is easily the Mavs’ best player right now.

There’s a reason why the crowd chanted “MVP” as Kyrie walked off with Anthony Davis’s help after making those free throws. His determination and nerve were a factor, yes. But Dallas fans also recognize that their team’s quality is heavily compromised without Kyrie on the floor.

But don’t think it was only Mavs fans at the American Airlines Center who worried for Kyrie. Fans online were freaking out about Irving’s injury, too! And we’ve compiled some of their best reactions for you below.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Mavs make a colossal mistake trading Luka, especially with Kyrie's injury woes now?

Dallas fans left on edge after Kyrie Irving’s devastating injury during Sacramento Kings game

A member of the community went as far as to show other X users how bad this injury really was. “Looks hyperextended. So unfortunate man, sorry Mavs fans😔,” they wrote with a screenshot of Kyrie’s knee bent in the wrong direction.

“Look at that leg 😭💔,” wrote another X user as both of them lamented the gruesome injury to Kyrie Irving. While Kyrie’s leg did look hyperextended, his reaction makes his injury seem more serious. We are still waiting on an official report regarding its severity.

Without an official update, most fans of the Dallas Mavericks were really stressed out about this injury. They prayed for Kyrie to heal up soon. “prayers man🙏🏽,” wrote one fan. While another wrote, “Please be okay man.” We all know how much Kyrie has done for the Mavs ever since they moved on from Luka Doncic. He’s carried the team on his back as Anthony Davis recovered from injury. But it seems the burden was too much.

Many Mavs lamented that this season was over for them after Kyrie’s injury. “Mavs just falling apart one by one right before our eyes💔,” wrote one X user. It’s clear that Nico Harrison’s decision to trade away Doncic has backfired. Not only is Anthony Davis out, but now they’ve lost Kyrie, too.

On the other hand, the Lakers have climbed to the 2nd seed in the Western Conference since signing Doncic. No wonder a Mavs fan wrote, “Nico Harrison is satan,” under the post of Kyrie Irving’s injury, no doubt referring to the $215 million controversy.

With Kyrie out, the Mavericks’ bench will have to do the heavy lifting till AD is back. But for now, all you Mavs fans can do is hope for a positive update from Jason Kidd and company. However, watching the injury live, I don’t think that’s in the cards. What about y’all?
