Was Team USA's narrow win over Jokic a sign of weakness or a display of true grit?

It still feels unreal! The way LeBron James and Stephen Curry snatched victory from under the nose of the Serbian team, who dominated 90% of the game. Every Team USA fan was on the edge of their seat last noon after Nikola Jokic and Co. gave them a run for their money, bringing out the best of the Team USA squad. One such nervous watcher of the semi-final was Draymond Green, who confessed his mental state post-game.

Just after the game, the Warrior let out his emotions, stating, “My heart was in my stomach watching this game.” As the conversation proceeded, Baron Davis, his pod co-host, insisted Green give him more details about his sentiments since everyone’s emotions peaked after halftime, as Serbia had an 11-point lead. “I was this close to putting Bron and Steph in a group chat like bro… come on, man! Come on!”

Both of them chuckled at the intensity at which Draymond Green was locked into the game. I bet if the fans had Dray’s privilege, they would have definitely done the same as the Warriors vet reiterated on The Draymond Green Show, “At half time we was down 11, I was about, I was this close to group texting them,” depicting the tiny space in between his pointer finger and the thumb.

Further confessing what was going through his mind, Green said, “I was tweeting like a mo********r… I was tweeting like I was coaching.” Everyone felt the tension, even on their TV screens, despite not being there in Paris, sitting on the sidelines. No wonder an NBA star like Draymond Green went through the same level of mental strain during the game and reacted eccentrically!

Nikola Jokic and Co. changed Draymond Green’s “energy” in the first half!

Serbia was dominant round the clock against Team USA as they kept sinking those threes, leaving the Dream Team 2.0’s defense in the lurch. It was not like the long-rangers were not coming off the Steve Kerr-led side’s end; Stephen Curry was leading the charge with his 14 points in the first half. However, Nikola Jokic proved why he was the 3x MVP as he shot 64% two-pointers on 7-of-11 shooting throughout the game. Until the end of the first half, Jokic led Serbia with his 9 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds.

It even put down Draymond Green’s hopes as he accepted fate when the game started and went through the first half, “I was watching like number one. Number one hype man…I’m going crazy! I’m coaching through the TV. So, my energy changed toward and I’ve been man…” The sigh from Dray was enough to express his scale of anxiety.

Was Team USA's narrow win over Jokic a sign of weakness or a display of true grit?

Have an interesting take?

Overall, it was not easy; it required a team effort from the Dream Team 2.0. Now, the only goal that they have in mind is to “beat France in France,” as Draymond Green said. The last time both encountered each other at the Olympics was in 2021 in Tokyo. It was a 5-point margin victory for the defending champs, and with the core experience that they possess this time with LeBron, Steph, and KD, Steve Kerr’s boys are surely the favorite to land Team USA’s 5th consecutive gold medal. Hands down. Who’s side are you on?
