The Memphis Grizzlies have had a rollercoaster ride in the last few months, ranging from the Ja Morant gun controversy to the playoff woes. Amid the chaos, the Grizzlies front office managed to strike the right chords and pulled off two eminent trades in the offseason. Notably, one of the latest entrants of the side who is overcoming from a betrayal, recently revealed his future plans for the side and declared a stern warning to the competitors.

The NBA took the call to suspend Morant for 25 games in the 2023-24 season after the star flashed a gun on IG live. Ever since the announcement, the 23-year-old star stayed almost inactive from all social media platforms, except for acknowledging Derrick Rose’s trade with a retweet. However, he is yet to make any public statement on the ex-Boston Celtics star who also recently joined the roster.

A few days into the offseason, the Celtics shocked the NBA world when they traded Marcus Smart to Grizzlies. After spending 9-long-seasons with the Celtics, even Smart was surprised by the uncalled move by the Celtics front office. However, several days after the trade, the 29-year-old guard addressed his first press conference as a Grizzlies player. During the interaction, he opened up on his plans to work with Morant after he returns to the team.

A reporter asked Smart about how he was going to develop the bond with Morant while he was still on suspension. Smart went on addressing the importance of the 2x NBA All-Star in the Grizzlies roster and his efforts to bring out the best in his teammates.

He said, “For us to do anything great, we’re going to need Ja… As a competitor, I love to push guys to their limit… I want to be able to have that same relationship with Ja.”

He also added how he operated with the same mindset with the Celtics and pushed his teammates for excellence.

Smart opened up about the Celtics betrayal

In a recent interview, Marcus Smart revealed how the Celtics didn’t give a heads up on the shocking trade. He also said that his wife woke him up in the midnight and broke the news after his agent informed them.

He added, “It was definitely shocking to find out that way, especially because the week before, I was already told we were good.”
