Teammates Draymond Green and Chris Paul share great chemistry on and off the court but this wasn’t something that was built overnight. Years ago, the two nursed a sworn rivalry that was evident whenever they stepped onto the court. They were intensely physical against each other on the floor and had an extremely competitive relationship. Naturally, playing for rival teams only added fuel to the fire. When CP was with the Clippers in the 2010s, it coincided with the huge rivalry that brewed between LA and the Warriors.
Looking back on this animosity, Draymond shares a story of how Devin Booker swooped in and tried to mend fences between the two. It was during the Olympic games in 2021 when DBooker tried to talk some sense into Draymond.
CP did not ‘hate’ Dray as much as Dray hated him

The guest in the latest episode of DrayMagic’s The Draymond Green Show is none other than his former rival CP, and the two openly discuss the rollercoaster relationship they shared. To this effect, Dray recalls an incident when he was letting off some steam and venting to Devin Booker about his anger and frustration toward CP. He had told Booker, “I hate him [CP].” Booker, who was CP’s teammate in the Suns then, replied, “I feel you Dray, but I don’t know if he really feel that strong about it, he don’t talk about it like that….He definitely don’t f*** with you.”

This was DBooker’s attempt at mending the bridges between Dray and CP3, but it did not have much effect on Dray, who replied, “I know he probably don’t talk about it Book, I f**king hate CP, man.” Looking back on it, Dray admits to CP that “Book a real one” for attempting to handle the situation more maturely because it was obvious he wasn’t handling it well. When Dray’s rivalry with CP was at its peak, news broke that the latter would be traded to the Warriors. Both of them did not take the news too well.

The necessary trade
They never saw eye to eye so when news broke in June 2023 that CP was going to land in the Warriors, neither of them was on board with the idea. CP reportedly said that he wasn’t keen on being traded to the Dub Nation if Dray did not resign. This was the extent of their rivalry.
Draymond, too, hated the idea of playing with the one player he never jelled with. He was once asked how much he disliked his nemesis on a scale of 1 to 10. Dray replied, “Eleven! I hated him. Eleven! But I think that’s also a sign of respect.” In retrospect, the trade was the best thing that happened to both of them as it gave them a chance to put their differences aside and for once, try to be on the same page.
