The Hawks aren’t having the best season, so a potential Trae Young loss could be detrimental to the team. “Ice Trae” was one of those players who didn’t fit the traditional basketball player profile. Just an inch over six feet, Young understood early on that he had to focus on the pros that his size offered. Every season saw him grow as a basketball player, but it was with the Hawks that he finally found his footing.
Since his rookie season, Young has remained a constant throughout, appearing in at least 60 games each season. This season saw him with just three missed games. The most recent being Atlanta’s previous matchup with the Miami Heat. The team currently ranks 10th in the East with an 18-24 record.
The Hawks vs Cavaliers
Trae Young was questionable for the Cavs game due to an illness that kept him away from the last game. But he suited up, only to find himself with a potential concussion that might sideline him again. Dejounte Murray led the scorers with 24 points while Jalen Johnson contributed 20. But they couldn’t hold off against a defensive-minded Cleveland.

Before starting the road trip, JB Bickerstaff had stressed the importance of following a defensive approach. “As long as you can defend, you give yourself a chance to win anywhere,” he said. Clearly, JB’s team took his advice seriously. Tonight’s victory brings their winning streak to seven straight games. It is also the league’s longest active winning streak and the team’s season-high.
Donovan Mitchell and Sam Merrill both tied for the lead scorers tonight with 18 points. Jarrett Allen, for his part, continues his brilliance in paint by landing yet another double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds) – seventh straight! And tying a franchise record.

The Cavaliers will be facing the Orlando Magic next. A possible Young-less Atlanta Hawks will find themselves against a Kings team that is on a four-game skid. Hopefully, Trae’s injury isn’t too serious and can return to action on Monday.
